Best not to cut off whatever it was that you are replying to . I don't
want to have to go and search and online ML archive just to find out
what you comment relates to.

That: :)

We would like to announce the availability of the initial release of
AdaptableGIMP, a modified version of GIMP that integrates new social,
community-based customization features into the application. The
project page and software can be found at:

 http://www.adaptablegimp.org

This initial release is available in source code form only. Binaries
 will follow.

AdaptableGIMP introduces a new way of interacting with software:
Rather than hunting through menus to find commands, users simply
enter what they wish to accomplish in a search box. As they type, a
list of interface customizations appears. These customizations---what
we call task sets---streamline the interface by putting every tool
and command necessary to accomplish a task in one, centralized
 location.

Task set customizations can be created by any user, and are instantly
shared with the rest of the user community. Wiki-based documentation
accompanies each task set, enabling users to pair tutorials and
how-to's with the customizations they create.

AdaptableGIMP is the result of ongoing research by members of the
University of Waterloo's Human Computer Interaction Lab. It is
directly informed by our previous project, ingimp, in which we
collected over 2 years' worth of data describing how people use GIMP.
Like ingimp, AdaptableGIMP collects data about how it is used in
practice, to help us continue to research new and innovative user
 interfaces.

Feedback about the project and its goals is welcome and can be
emailed to the project at the address found below.

Oh, gee… ;)

I found that announcement “most promising” :)

Dear Dr. Terry:

I find it interesting that you and your group decided to use task
set instead of (solution) stack, the standard FLOSS descriptor
for sets of tools tailored to a specific task.

Smart move, given that the goal, I would assume, is to help everyone!

Dear Dr. Terry:

On a more humorous note, it would appear to me that a good logo for
AdaptableGIMP would be Wilber with an eye patch, suggesting that the
main idea is to make only part of the interface visible (in a task
dependent way).

[Gimp-developer] CMYK file export plug-in

2011-03-12 Thread Yoshinori Yamakawa
Hi,

According to the GIMP Roadmap, it seems to take time very much for the
CMYK support to be added to the GIMP.

Now we can use the separate+ plug-in, but I think that the separate+
plug-in is not proper for the GIMP distribution because the separate+
plug-in has unnecessary features for general users and the separate+
workflow is not very seamless.

The Separate+ team has written the subset version of separate+ (named
separate-) as a GIMP file plug-in. Separate- is the CMYK file exporter
and is very simple to use. It supports TIFF, JPEG and Photoshop PSD formats.

From the feedback I have from users here in Brazil - and I mean
professional artists
working with FreeSoftware, I'd say it would be very important if we
could get this in GIMP 2.8

Even if for gimp 3.0 and beyod we think of CMYK exports in a totally
different way - all plug-ins will have to be rethough when we get to
GIMP 3.0 anyway. The demand for this ability however we agree that it
is not the best approach, is very high in the professional levels. At
least around here, where the print stores use to require
pre-separated artwork from the authors.
