If we use this window > as a DND target, where should our users drop images when it is not > there? I think the remaining question is: when GIMP is not the foreground application (toolbox and inspectors hidden, as they should) where can users d+d files apart from on the taskbar icon? I have Windows only experience (not Linux or Mac) so maybe I'm missing something here ... In Windows D'n'D, for a non-visible application works "everywhere" as drag to taskbar button which brings that application to foreground. User (still w/o releasing mouse button) then drags to to window which has just been brought to foreground and releases. This works now with current Gimp whether there is an image open or not so long as the first bring to foreground is done to the Gimp toolbox window. So wrt. remaining question: "where can users d+d files apart from on the taskbar icon?" . Why is there any need for anything else? That's how Windows user expect ALL applications to behave. Re: [Gimp-developer] Developer-User Disconnect
"Gary Pikula" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> said on Nov 30, 2007 1:10 -0500 (in part): It is largely the same story with the gimp user group forums. *Everyone* is used to phpbb forums and the software in use seems incomplete. ... ... The *average user* has never used a mailing list before as well and feels uncomfortable with them, take that into more consideration. "... Everyone" ... "average user" ... From past discussions about forums vs newsgroups (eg. yahoo-groups) in other groups my feeling is its much closer to 50-50. My personal preference is for mailing lists (or forums only if they can provide all postings to me as separate emails). FWIW: If setting up a new discussion group I'd probably lean to doing it with Google Groups. Regards ... [Gimp-developer] Gimp 2.4.0 rc2 access violation in WinXP - what to do?
Hi developers: I have several times received an AV crash when double-clicking on a file to open it. From what I've gathered lurking, this is more likely to be a GTK+ problem than a GIMP problem but with 2.4.0 final presumably just around the corner I thought I shouldn't just ignore it. FWIW the main error (per the drmingw dump) is gimp-2.4.exe caused an Access Violation at location 00675c23 in module gimp-2.4.exe Reading from location . (I have the dump if its any use) I searched for "product:GIMP Access Violation" in bugzilla and only found one hit : 314529 <http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=314529> filed against 2.2.8 in 2005 and with no activity since 2007-07-25 14:29 UTC. As a non-programming, non-developing lurker should I just ignore this, file it against Gimp (since I can't tell where it really belongs) with as much description as possible, mention it somewhere else ? [Gimp-developer] Gimp 2.3.18 barfs and dies without helpful messages (WinXP-SP2)
Hi: With some trepidation considering the firm refusal of help I had to acknowledge :-( when installing gimp-2.3.18-i586-setup.exe (from http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=121075) I'm asking for help. When I attempt to run Gimp 2.3 it barfs and dies immediately. No info is shown in the DOS box. Kent ( xanthian) on the gimpwin list suggested that problem was likely with GTK+ I had been running Gimp 2.2.x with a GTK+ version (prior to GTK+ 2.10.13) In an attempt to get everything as current as possible: I uninstalled Gimp 2.2.x, GTK+ and Gimp 3.3.18 then installed GTK+ 2.10.13 using gtk+-2.10.13-setup.exe (also from http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=121075) then installed gimp-2.3.18-i586-setup.exe Running Gimp 2.3.18 still gives same symptoms - DOSbox starts, Gimp splash screen displayed, two frame windows opened (main Gimp window and tip-of-the-day but no contents are painted), two tasks show in TaskManager: Gimp2.3.exe and script-fu.exe and then "Gimp 2.3 must close ..." error dialog is shown Install for Gimp 2.3.18 gives bug list queries to check. " 436242 depend on GTK+ 2.10.13" looks relevant but as I read it I s/b OK wrt it? Has anyone a suggestion for what might be wrong and/or further info I can supply? (Unfortunately I don't have the competence to attempt to compile Gimp myself) FWIW: this is the original thread on Yahoo-gimpwin: gimp-2.3.18-i586-setup.exe after install gives "gimp-2.3.exe has encountered" http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/gimpwin-users/message/19705 Regards ...
