[Gimp-developer] Inverse Transform option

2019-02-23 Thread Julien Hardelin

Hi devs,

I can't understand the Inverse Transform option in Little Planet and
Panorama Projection filters, and can't find any explanation about that
on the Internet.

UI pop help tells "useful for touching up zenith, nadir of other parts
of panorama": how to manage that, I hardly recognize anything in the
inverse transformed image.

Please help me.

[Gimp-developer] Vignette filter: Softness and Gamma options

Hi devs,

I found an explanation for Vignette/Gamma = falloff linearity: controls
how fast is brightness reduced towards the corners.

But Softness seems to work in the same way.

How to explain the difference between Softness and Gamma?

Re: [Gimp-developer] GEGL Drop Shadow filter not working

2019-01-05 Thread Julien Hardelin

Wel, I progress.

With text layers, GEGL and Legacy Drop Shadow filters work the same.

With images, to get, with the GEGL filter, the same effect as the Legacy
filter, I must use a complex procedure:

- Open the original image

- Open a transparent image a little bigger than the original image.

- Copy-paste the original image into the transparent image.

- This creates a floating selection. Anchor the floating selection.

- Apply GEGL Drop Shadow.

Voilà.

All my attempts using resizing layer failed. Is there a simpler, at
once, way to do this as with the legacy filter?

The GEGLized drop shadow filter is a big regressin in 2.10 -
nonetheless it works, in a destructive way (while the legacy
dropshadow works in a
non destructive way, and even allows adjusting the effect by
displacing the created
shadow layer).

So - it actually only works in a whole layer, is there are no active
selections -
if you are seeing nothing (and have space in the layer), maybe the problem is
that you have an active selection. The legacy drop shadow works
in a similar way, by changing the active layer, if there is an
active selection. The existing GEGL filter have no equivalent mode
to the one that would create a shadow for the selection itself in the
old filter.

Please help me for these two options.

I'd suggest waiting with the documentation of these options, as they're
likely to change. The interplay between them is indeed a bit vague at
the moment. Ultimately, they'll most likely behave similarly to the
"spacing", "motion only", and "rate" options of the airbrush tool.

Re: [Gimp-developer] Need help for gegl translation

Thank you, Peter.

Hi Julien,

I'm not in front of the reference right now, but from the context you've
provided it appears Vis would be shorthand for visibility. I'd guess that's
dealing with some layer order drawing rules.

Aux pad is an auxiliary input to the gegl chain. If you envision the
tree-like structure connecting processing elements, the Aux pad wouldn't be
connected along the main input / output line. Instead it could be from
anywhere in the pipeline (including an independent element or self
sufficient generator like white noise) . Pad is a synonym for the
connection point which comes from circuit board terminology.

50% gray is a color reference that is standard terminology in image
processing. Because we as humans don't perceive contrast linearly, 50% gray
does not correspond to the midpoint of the color scale (e.g. 127/255 if you
were in 8-bits). You can read a bit more about it here:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Middle_gray

Hope that helps!

Hi,

Some strings are difficult to translate in gegl interface. Could
developpers give some explanations? This would be useful for all
translators:

1- FFmpeg video output sink
German translated sink to ziel (something related to target),
italian to recezione (reception),
spanish to sumidero (something related to sewers).
What sink means here?

2- How much horizontal offset should applied to the paste
Is it paste as in copy-paste?

3- Wind-like bleed effect
bleed?

4- wrapping dcraw with pipes
Does that mean that dcraw is kept out?

5- Relative brightness change in stops
What these stops are?
