I'm trying to follow your instructions below but as you can see from the
attached screen shot, I go to tools, select brush and there's no menu options
for colour, size or anything else..Hope I've managed to put this in the
correct email section too.

Hi, I was using Gimp with Ubuntu and got on well with it at a
basic/intermediate level due to computer failure I'm back to XP on
another machine. Downloaded Gimp 2.8 and the brush size, shape, speed
options are not available. tried your FAQ's, Tutorials and all other
options I can find but no
