[Gimp-user] Scaling large tiff files

2010-03-06 Thread lkraemer
I had a Printing company in Iowa scan some plans at 600DPI,
1BB, and the size in pixels was 16592 x 10800 (21.4M).
Several of the files were burnt to CDR and named Temp000398 thru Temp000408.
I tried GIMP and I couldn't view or open the files. Image Viewer, or any other
Linux Application I have tried didn't work either. I needed to find out what
information was contained in each file. I finally tried M$ Paint 5.1, and it
worked great to view the files. Now, I needed a way to rescale the TIF's,
after renaming them so I could find the plan I needed.

I tried Irfanview, and it worked wonderful. I could use
the Batch function to operate on several images without loading up each one
in memory to view. Irfanwiew will also Export to PDF's.

You might want to give it a try, as it runs in Windows and Linux under WINE.

I've also got M$ Paint Ver 5.1 running on Wine in Ubuntu.

[Gimp-user] GIMP won't load LARGE TIF file

2010-03-07 Thread lkraemer
I had some plans scanned at Zephyr Printing. They scanned
the Large drawings at 600DPI, 1 Bit Black, and saved the files. The pixel
sizes of the drawings are 21600 x 33184.
The files also have the Fax Group 4 designation.

I can't load these drawings into Gimp 2.6, or view them with
any Ubuntu Software. I have used Irfanview to view them,
so at least I can rename each file according to what is
located inside the file.

Has anyone had trouble using with such a large sized file?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

[Gimp-user] GIMP won't load LARGE TIF file

2010-03-08 Thread lkraemer
Tobias,
Here are the answers to your questions.

Can you upload somewhere such a file?
An incomplete scanned file, which is a bit larger has
been uploaded here:
http://www.filefactory.com/file/b08c72g/n/Temp00395.Tif

The file size is 3.72 Meg and Pixel size is 21600 x 36000
at 1BPP.

Which operating system do you use?
Ubuntu 9.10 32 Bit with all the latest updates Gnome Desktop.

Which exact Gimp version do you use?
GIMP Ver 2.6.7 included with Ubuntu Install ISO.

Are there any warnings or errors?
No Warnings or errors, but the screen does go dim and GIMP
just hangs, eventually wanting a FORCED Quit.

I have installed Irfanview in WINE 1.0.1. I have just tried opening this
file in Irfanview 4.23, then saving it
to Temp00395a.Tif, and then I can load this new saved Tif
in Gimp Ver 2.6.7..but it takes forever.

Computer is a Compaq Laptop CQ50-139NR with Core II Duo with 3 Gig RAM and
500 Gig Drive, with Ubuntu on a 127 Gig
Partition.

Thanks.
