[Gimp-user] Tiling - is there a better way?

2006-06-08 Thread Alf Lacis
Tiling is described on http://www.gimp.org/tutorials/Tileable_Textures/
as Select Image Layer - Transform - Offset. Then choose the convient
x/2, y/2 option, and hit OK.

This is pretty awful.

Is this question better raised at the 'developers' mailing list?

A better way of doing textures would be to show 'phantom' copies of the
tiled image like this:

||
  copy  |  copy  |  copy
||
++
||
  copy  |  copy  |  copy
||
++
||
  copy  |  copy  |  copy
||

When you make a paint brush mark across a boundary you see it tiled
properly!
Like this mock-up of 4 backslashes to simulate a diagonal line.

\\
\ copy  |\ copy  |\ copy
  \ |  \ |  \
---\+---\+---\
\\
\ copy  |\ copy  |\ copy
  \ |  \ |  \
---\+---\+---\
\\
\ copy  |\ copy  |\ copy
  \ |  \ |  \

or viewing the image by itself without all the copies:

+---\+
\\
|\ copy  |
|  \ |
+---\+

[Gimp-user] Twice before

2006-02-22 Thread Alf Lacis
Twice in the last couple of weeks I've asked about unfading old
photographs, and this has not appeared on the gimp user forum.

Is this the wrong place to ask about using gimp?
