[Gimp-user] CMYK/ RGB printing

2007-11-19 Thread Richard Oliver
I have noticed a considerable difference between printing on a CMYK
printer and a RGB printer.
Is there a way to view the same picture both ways so as to adjust so as to
keep the colours as true as possible?
I am sure that there is a better way of posing this question but I am
afraid my knowledge of the subject is really limited.
I would value ideas please.

[Gimp-user] Colour management

2007-09-18 Thread Richard Oliver
Does Gimp have any thing like the colour management system that Photoshop
has , which I believe can be used to set the system to a standard setting
to ensure that periferals such as monitors, cameras., printers etc are all
operating on the same colour values.

[Gimp-user] Watemarking photographs

2007-09-03 Thread Richard Oliver
Kevin wrote--- With regard to ImageMagick

Make sure you downloaded one of the executable installer packages and not
the source code of ImageMagick. I noticed that it might be a bit
confusing
as to which package to get since there are five different versions
available on the download page located at
http://www.imagemagick.org/script/binary-releases.php#windows.

The fifth version offered is only useful if you have a 64-bit computer.
If you don't have that, you need to use one of the first four links.

If you are still having problems, it might help to know which installer
package you are trying to use, which version of Windows you are using,
and some more details of what happens when you try to run the installer
including the contents of any error messages you may be seeing.

That is about all I can suggest for now. I don't use ImageMagick under
Windows so I haven't tried installing any of the Windows installer
packages.

Thank you Kevin for your help.
I did finally get ImageMagick viewer to run but after it hijacked a fax
that came in and only showed the first page of the fax,I decided to scrap
it ! I am sure that it is a great program when you get to know how to use
it !
I found two answers to my watermarking problem --
(a) Gimp-Tools-Text ---which I can use to put a name etc on the picture.
and
(b) I downloaded the Gimp watermark.scm plugin which also does the job.
Kind regards ,Richard

[Gimp-user] Watermarking photographs---

2007-08-19 Thread Richard Oliver
I have been asked to watermark photos for sale on the internet.
Google shows several programs for doing this and also shows that
Photoshop and Paintshop pro have the ability to do this.
I have been unable to find any information about this in the Gimp
manual.Your kind assistance please.Richard

[Gimp-user] Blending----

2007-05-15 Thread Richard Oliver
I have a photo of a Mountain range which I want to use as a background
to advertise a bed and breakfast lodge.
I have placed four photographs, one showing a picture of the the
lodge, the others, showing shots of the accommodation. These are as
different layers, positioned , one in each corner of the background.
What I would like to achieve is to blend the edges of those photo's
into the background so that the edges are semi-transparent and show the
mountain in a soft sort of light.
Your help would be much appreciated,Richard

[Gimp-user] Input devices--

2007-04-05 Thread Richard Oliver
I am a new but very enthuastic user of GIMP but find it difficult to do
very fine detail with the use of my Optical Mouse.
I have read somewhere of a pen or stylis as input devices and
wondered if these are available as alternatives to the mouse.
(I have tried increasing the magnification and using small brushes
which does help.)
I am using Win XP Home Ed.
Usb 2.0 etc
Thank you for a most interesting mailing list.
Richard
