Another trick is to proceed as you have started, with one layer
for the background, then build up your bumpmapped logo in another
few layers, and finally merge visible layers or flatten the image
prior to saving it for your web page. That way you can wind up
with a jpeg image (giving you enough
pixel perfect alignment with the background to give
the illusion of tranparency but that will not work as well as it might
sound.
