Thank you Rich for the response. I think I fixed it...at least I hope I did lol. I had changed changed something I should not have in trying to modify the scaling of the UI. One way. Use as large an image as you can get, the bigger the better. Paint out the Superman logo and paint in any contours: https://i.imgur.com/lSFO0P2.jpg You can get batman logos that already have a transparent background, no need to remove one. Size that to suit, paste in as a new layer, move and rotate then apply a little distortion using the IWarp tool. Filters -> Distorts -> IWarp https://i.imgur.com/x9zR4xc.jpg Before applying a bump map, make the batman logo the full image size, Layer -> Layer to image size. It has to match the underlying superman image (the painted in one), otherwise an offset is applied. There is no noticeable light direction so settings are simple see: https://i.imgur.com/2NWT0P7.jpg rich: www.gimp-forum.net -- rich404 (via www.gimpusers.com/forums) ___ gimp-user-list mailing list List address:gimp-user-list@gnome.org List membership: https://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user-list List archives: https://mail.gnome.org/archives/gimp-user-list
[Gimp-user] Help with Selection Tools Issue
>I am a beginner to GIMP but I've done some stuff in PSE. > I tried to use the "magic wand" / fuzzy select tool, but A few issues there. I know what you want to do but not sure how you are going about it. First general issues. Forget what you have done before in PS, Gimp works in its own way, it has a steep learning curve, it is not PS. Windows users for some reason fall back on re-installing when they think the application is broken. That is very-very rarely necessary. More usually it is the Gimp profile C:\Users\your-name\.gimp-2.8 that has been screwed up. Rename that to back it up in case you ever need it again. Start up Gimp and a new default profile is created. Deleting the background. "quote - I tried to use the "magic wand" / fuzzy select tool, but instead of activating the section I clicked, the entire image began to fill" That is the bit I can not understand, what do you mean by activating? A selection is normally indicated by a dotted line 'marquee' - sometimes called crawling ants. Removing a background this way requires 1. Add an alpha channel - screenshot 1 2. Using the fuzzy select tool, click in the background. 3. Cut the selection, Edit -> Cut or ctrl-x screenshot 2 Note: Not all is selected, you can add / subtract from an initial selection by changing the fuzzy tool mode. The gimp docs are: Chapter 14 starting https://docs.gimp.org/en/gimp-tools-selection.html Chapter 7 starting https://docs.gimp.org/en/gimp-using-selections.html and a short video (7 minutes) just describing them: https://youtu.be/m-Y4G8_murs A more usual way which you can try is, Colors -> Color-to-alpha. Default is white. Sometimes those types of clip art become semi-transparent, so it is try-and-see. rich: www.gimp-forum.net Attachments: * http://www.gimpusers.com/system/attachments/839/original/01-fuzzy.jpg * http://www.gimpusers.com/system/attachments/840/original/02-fuzzy.jpg -- rich404 (via www.gimpusers.com/forums) ___ gimp-user-list mailing list List address:gimp-user-list@gnome.org List membership: https://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user-list List archives: https://mail.gnome.org/archives/gimp-user-list
[Gimp-user] Help with Selection Tools Issue
I am a beginner to GIMP but I've done some stuff in PSE. I recently downloaded and installed GIMP. I wanted to play around a bit so I dragged in a simple jpg illustration and wanted to remove the white background. I tried to use the "magic wand" / fuzzy select tool, but instead of activating the section I clicked, the entire image began to fill with black pixels growing outward from the image itself and spreading inward from the edges. The action is locked and continues no matter what other tool I try to activate. There is no stopping it and "undo" doesn't work. I've uninstalled, reinstalled, downloaded again and everytime is the same. Can someone help me? I am a relatively inexperienced gimp user. I was recently asked by someone to replace the logo of an existing character with a different logo while maintaining the contours of the original image e.g. muscle definition. I could use the perspective tool to position the logo on the character but it would lose the definition lines. I read about bump maps and other tools, but frankly I'm not sure what would be appropriate for my project. I've attached an example of what I'm trying to do. In this case, I would need to replace the Superman logo with the Batman logo without losing the definition lines.
