What you download is an installer, so you have to execute it (find it in
your download folder and double-click it) to install Gimp. Then you will
have an icon in your desktop (or in the estart menu).

[Gimp-user] Script or other method to quickly save all open *[Untitled]-1.0 (RGB Color, 1 layer) style filenames

2018-10-16 Thread Keith Christian via gimp-user-list
If anyone knows of such a script that would save these with a default
filename and bypass the save dialog I'd like to know also.

If the script could be configured to save to a pre-specified directory
it would be helpful.

Purpose is to quickly save screenshots used in documentation.

Thanks.

[Gimp-user] Multi-window mode with toolboxes attached?

2018-10-16 Thread Robert Krawitz
Is there a way to enable multi-window mode (each image with its own
window) but with each image having its toolbars and boxes attached? I
dislike single window mode with a single visible image (and even a
tiled singe-window mode wouldn't be what I want; I want each image to
be fully window-managed), but having toolbars and such attached to
each image would be very useful.

[Gimp-user] Bend text (currently image) and symmetrical cutout

2018-10-16 Thread Johnny1995
Hi everyone!

New to Gimp and liking it thus far but I have two problems I would like some
tips in solving.

In the attached picture there is some text at the bottom I would like to bend
slightly to follow the curvature at the bottom of motive. I tried doing a path
and writing the text (Ii-Generationssittning) in Gimp, but it came out really
pixely. Thus, I downloaded the same text from a graphics generator to avoid
this. Now I am having a hard time getting this to bend along the edge.

Also, as you may notice, there is currently no background. I would to make a
symmetrical shape of what I have attached, with the image and text in the
center. I guess the end result would look something like a keyhole with the
image in the center. I have tried the ellipse tool with path to selection, but
that only allowed me to free form the edges, not make it symmetrical.

Very grateful for any tips in solving this.

Regards,

Johnny

[Gimp-user] Layer spaces

2018-10-16 Thread klaatu
I've been looking for documentation on the new layer composite spaces in 2.10
and, so far, have not been able to find much. As a result, I started some of my
own tests.

Here's what I've uncovered:

Blend Space: according to the GIMP release notes, this switches the mode of
layer blending from the old perceptual method and the new linear method. I'm not
sure what the Auto setting defaults to; I assume New, but I guess it may also
depend on whether a pre-2.10 XCF file is loaded or not(?)

Composite space: I believe this is essentially the same as Blend Space, except
this refers to the mode of the layer only rather than the *interaction* between
two layers.

Composite modes:

Union: Processes the composite effect and displays all layers. Where there is
functionally no compositing happening (ie, in places where there is only alpha),
the lowest layer is displayed.

Clip to backdrop: Processes the composite effect and displays all layers. Where
there is no compositing happening (ie, in the alpha), only alpha is displayed.

Clip to layer: Processes the composite effect and displays only [this] affected
layer (the layer set to this composite mode). Anything not on this layer is
treated as alpha.

Intersection: Processes the composite effect and displays only the parts of the
affected image that intersect with [this] layer (the layer set to this composite
mode). Anything that does not intersect with this layer is treated as alpha.

Attached is a graphical demo of the composite modes. The blend and composite
spaces weren't really worth demo'ing, as the differences were very subtle
(which, I think, is the intent; the old perceptual method is, from what I've
read, only around to ensure that old XCFs display unchanged).

Is that area static, if it varies then I think not possible.

Nothing easy in Gimp I can think of to batch process a set of frames. You will
need a script/plugin writing.

As a possibility, using ImageMagick and a couple of commands.

overlay each frame with a mask, choose a colour that does not normally occur in
the frames, say magenta

magick composite area.png image.75.jpg out-xxx.png

Make that overlay colour transparent

magick out-xxx.png -fuzz 40% -transparent magenta result-xxx.png

Of course that is just for a single frame, those need wrapping in a batch/bash
script depending on OS.

Best place to ask the question is https://www.imagemagick.org/discourse-server/
in the Users section

Some old Gimp resources, including scripts are here: Looks daunting but there is
nothing much to do.

Go to the scripts section, click on the scriptyou want and it is shown with line
numbers. You do not want the line numbers. The script will not work with line
numbers.

Right click on the RAW button, then (depends on web browser) download link. That
downloads the scm. Put that in your Gimp 2.10 User profile for Windows usually

C:\Users\your-name\AppData\Roaming\GIMP\2.10\scripts

Find it in the usual places File -> Create -> Logos and Filters ->
Alpha-to-Logo

In case you stumble with the download, script attached.

A bit strange. I can not reproduce that. From your other post, I assume there
are still shortcuts seen in the menu structure (1) but it is assigning a new one
that is the problem (2)

It does work - Gimp 2.10.6 / Win10 but with the default dark theme the new
shortcut seems reluctant to show.

You could try using a lighter theme to make everything more obvious and see if
the re-assign works. Very few free keys remaining.

The values are held in a text file, menurc which might look like (3) That is the
G assignment for Remove Guides.

The file menurc is in your Gimp profile. In Windows that is
C:\Users\your-name\AppData\Roaming\GIMP\2.10\menurc

[Gimp-user] image perspective

2018-10-16 Thread Gimp_Noob
I'm trying to wrap a label around an object. I am able to use the bend curve
tool to achieve a satisfactory result. It's not great but I'll take it. I'm
having a real problem using the perspective tool. Most of the time the image
(label) ends up shrinking too much. I viewed a couple of tutorials where people
are wrapping different kinds of objects in labels. If I use an object i.e. jar
or can that is similar to the one in the tutorial the final image seems to come
out okay. If I have to use a random object the final image is a mess. I'll post
a screenshot of my workspace. It may or may not help anyone come up with a
suggestion. I would appreciate it if someone could point me in the right
direction.

I would keep the upper and lower curves in the curve-bend filter parallel. If
you want to make adjustments, do them later.

There are other tools, warp-transform - not a wonderful choice or map-to-object
(cylinder) - can be effective but not so easy to use for this purpose.

This is just some of my thoughts, that might get you some sort of result.

[Gimp-user] Why jpg files created by gimp can't be edited and saved with microsoft photo?

2018-10-16 Thread Hank48152
I edited some photos with GIMP 2.10.6 and exported them as jpg files. Then I
wanted to do some quick edits of the exported jpg files with Microsoft Photo
(Windows 10 operating system). When I attempt to save my changes (or a copy of
the changes) the following message is displayed:
"Oops! We couldn't save that one."

I thought perhaps my Microsoft Photo App was corrupt, so I ran the repair and
reset commands under Microsoft Photo App settings and neither helped.

When I attempt to edit and save jpg files that were not created with GIMP,
Microsoft Photo works fine (note these files are in the same folder as the GIMP
exported jpg). So the problem is unique to those jpg files created with GIMP.

When I right clicked on the jpg files created with GIMP and selected properties,
I noticed in the "General Tab" the following option was unchecked:
"This file came from another computer and might be blocked to help protect this
computer __ Unblock".
So I checked the "Unblock" box and hit "Apply" then "OK". However this didn't
help. Still unable to save it in Microsoft Photo.

Has anyone else experienced this issue? Why is this happening and what can I do
to fix it?

Your assistance would be greatly appreciated.

[Gimp-user] Best way to color calibrate for camera?

2018-10-16 Thread PhilPhoto
I'm using gimp to edit photos from a sony alpha camera.
I'm using sony's raw import tool, to generate a tiff which I then pull into
GIMP.

I've gotten my hands on a munsel chart, aka an xrite color passport.
What is the best (free) way to adjust colors based on that?

I would have thought creating an ICC profile to convert the image to, would be
best... except that there doesnt seem to be any good free way to do this.
I did find "dcamprof".. but the instructions there are so horribly confusing and
long, I cant follow them.
One might almost thinks this is deliberate, since he sells a commercial layer on
top of the free stuff, to provide an easier method.

So can anyone suggest a more straightforward process that will result in a
consistently color calibrated image?

(PS: yes my monitor is already calibrated)

just to clarify

Older Pentax cameras ( *istDS, K100, K10 ) Camera Make is "PENTAX Corporation"
then they changed it ( K30, K50, K5) Camera Make is "PENTAX"
Later Pentax Cameras ( K3, K70, K1 ) Cameras Make is "RICOH IMAGING COMPANY,
LTD"

after further testing this problem applies to "out of camera" JPGs with the word
"PENTAX", that is the exif file was written by the camera. If you develop a raw
file with an editor, output to JPG, load that JPG into gimp, then export from
gimp the exported file has exif data. ( Still with the word "PENTAX" as the
Camera Make. )

Why are you so upset by my answer? I never told, I never thought you were a
liar.
I only noticed that the command line would not work because of the spaces.
I did not know this bug you are pointing to, but was so interested in it that I
also answered you on the Flicker Gimp Users group.
I only wanted to fix the command line for people who would try to copy-paste it.
I don't use the Gogle translation for posting in English, but I confirm it adds
spaces.
As for the lowercase -make, I unconsciously typed it instead of -Make, because I
never use uppercase when lowercase is working.

You are right, but the command line should not include spaces before and after

Not going to make much difference wherever I point you to, since it looks like
your AV will stop any file with a .py suffix.

The old registry.gimp.org site was backed up as an archive and you can browse
through the files

https://github.com/pixlsus/registry.gimp.org_static/tree/master/registry.gimp.org/files

The one you want is:

https://github.com/pixlsus/registry.gimp.org_static/raw/master/registry.gimp.org/files/layerfx.2.8.py.txt

Note the .txt suffix. You will have to remove that for the plugin to work eg.
rename to layerfx28.py

I have found even that defeats some Windows users, so best of luck.

I am guessing that you do not need that active selection.

A short video that might help. I have done it back to front. Two images next to
each other followed by moving a selection around a canvas. Might help

[Gimp-user] simply move an image from left to right on a canvas

2018-10-16 Thread squiggly_lines
I just want to be able to move an image across a larger canvas.
Using the 'float' option just moves the image within the window of a selection,
so you are left with a corner of the image on an otherwise empty canvas. What I
need is a way to pick up a selection as a whole and move it around entirely in
one piece on a canvas.

Ultimate goal would be to compare two images next to eachother in one picture,
but using layers you are left with the same problem, there does not seem to be a
way to move the contents of a layer across a larger canvas. All that
accomplishes is having a smaller image in the upper left corner of the canvas,
when you then try to select the image and move it around on the canvas, the same
thing happens, you just move the selection within the selected window, it does
not actually move on the canvas.

When you pull it to the right, any pixel you pull it to the right is no longer
visible, pull it to the lower part of the canvas, any pixel of movement results
in every pixel on the underside of the selection being no longer visible.

The old gimp-plugin-registry site is gone. There were 3 versions of layerfx.
Assuming you are using Windows, the attached is a slightly tweaked version for
Gimp 2.10

Unzip it, and pop in your Gimp profile plug-ins folder
C:\Users\your-name\AppData\Roaming\GIMP\2.10\plug-ins

screenshot https://i.imgur.com/z7zcMsd.jpg

Find it bottom of the layers menu (also in right click in layers dialogue)

https://i.imgur.com/YFVV6US.jpg

It is one of the plugins that are not very happy with Gimp 2.10 / 32bit python
2.7.15 Some filters do not work.

Work-arounds. The python color picker crashes. Set the FG color first, then
right-click in the dialogue, choose FG color.

https://i.imgur.com/uiSxStG.jpg

As the name implies, it works on layers, depending on filter & settings remember
to size any text layers to suit.

https://i.imgur.com/DnQW1WQ.jpg

If you want an earlier / Gimp 2.8 version just ask.

[Gimp-user] Convert to profile error (babl and CLUTs)?

2018-10-16 Thread Maciej
I'm using gimp 2.10 from flatpak on Ubuntu 16.04

When converting image to profile (for Canon Selphy CP1200) before print I got
error on the console:

gimp_color_transform_new: error making format: CanSelphy_Can-Glossy-S01_1.icc:
profile contains perceptual luts and perceptual was explicitly asked for, babl
does not yet support CLUTs

The ICC was made on Apple computer using X-Rite software.

Does it mean that I cannot convert image and print it correctly using just GIMP
for this particular profile? I use jpgicc and darktable for prints but sometimes
Gimp is just the proper tool.

[Gimp-user] Export to DNG raw file?

2018-10-16 Thread Punchcard
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
GIMP 2.10.6

Via darktable, GIMP can open a DNG raw file written by Vuescan. Can GIMP export
to a DNG file?

After opening an image via darktable, I crop it.
I wish to export the result to a DNG file.

GIMP's File Type list offers "Raw image data" with extensions "data" and "raw".

Exporting to a "data" file and then opening the file produces a nonsense image.

Exporting and then opening a "raw" file produces "Image filename.raw is not
available" from darktable. Exiting darktable produces the GIMP message "Raw
Pentax PEF plug-In could not open image".

You probably found that the usual fuzzy / color select does not work too well,
neither does making a mask using threshold.

[Gimp-user] Help file for Gimp 2.10?

2018-10-16 Thread david_f
>Not yet.
>
>Alex

I am very aware that GIMP is not at all comercial software and that it's done
and maintained mainly by volounteers, so sorry for asking that directly, but
why, four months later, that "Not yet" is currently still true (no offline help
file for Gimp 2.10), whereas 2.10 online complete help files are indeed
available (in english as well as in 16 other languages) at
https://www.gimp.org/docs/ ?

Although I don't know when those files were first made publicly available, IMHO
compiling those already existing HTML files into a unique setup file to get a
local 2.10 offline help, shouldn't take that long and shouldn't require much
effort; AMOF that was already done with 2.8 locally installed help.

Am I wrong or am I missing anything ?

Thanks,

David

[Gimp-user] GIMP 2.10.4 on OS/X broke my icon previews.

I am running OS/X High Sierra (10.13.6). Since installing GIMP 2.10.4, Finder is
no longer displaying any my .xcf files with an icon preview of the image, even
when the file was created long ago and hasn't been changed since.

I have tried deleting the Finder preferences file, and then restarting Finder,
but that didn't work. I have tried deleting the Finder preferences file, and
then rebooting, with a similar lack of success. I have tried re-telling finder
to associate all .xcf files with GIMP, and that didn't work.

Does anyone out there have any suggestions on how i should proceed?

yes, by all means, thanks for the junction, not sure why it's so complex in
Win..

anyways, tested: environment variable XDG_CACHE_HOME=f:\tmp\gimp , put it on
USER level, without logoff or anything, just re-launch GIMP, and instantly these
directories got created:

[code]
Directory of F:\tmp\gimp

21-Sep-18 12:15 AM .
21-Sep-18 12:15 AM ..
21-Sep-18 12:15 AM fontconfig
21-Sep-18 12:14 AM gegl-0.4
21-Sep-18 12:15 AM thumbnails
   0 File(s) 0 bytes
[/code]

this looks very promising, will run heavy operations and u can assume if works
if you don't hear again :) :)
