Lately I have found that my Gimp copy, 2.8.16, will not run full screen. Splash
screen opens on start and appears to load correctly but Gimp screen can only be
seen minimised in the taskbar.
Tried so far: All the Googled "this will fix it" advice.

What they said, plus: The same applies to any software released under
the GPL or similar license, from a command line program to a whole
operating system in action. The more Free Software we see on screen in
TV and movies, the happier the makers & users of these tools will be.
