Me too on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, but not on Fedora 17 or Windows builds. System font
anti-aliasing settings has nothing to do with this problem as far as I tested. I
guess it could be the unofficial build that used a wrong parameter or conflict
libraries.

same problem here on debian testing. unusable, which is a major problem since i 
need it for my job. 

has anyone any solution to this?

There should also be options for the type of screen you have - RGB,
VRGB, etc.

The first thing is to discover what's causing your problem, before
trying to work out a solution.

It depends on your objective as to whether it makes sense. Note also
that gimp's text tool options has a separate antialiasing setting.

Obviously a green halo is not intended.

Check your font antialiasing preferences maybe? In gnome 2 this is in
system->prefs->appearance->fonts under advanced, I don't know about kde.

There should be settings for your LCD screen sub-pixel hinting, and you
might want to try turning that off and see if it helps.
