Geoffrey, I don't used a tablet for reasons that you're experiencing. However, further searching Wacom web site I came upon this web site http://people.mandrakesoft.com/~flepied/projects/wacom/ This site has or claims to have the necessary linux drivers. If you're successful sent us an email.
