so it is useful to know to keep them unchecked when performing this

You're absolutely right Peter, my mistake, I meant the script folder C:\Program
Files\GIMP-2.0\share\gimp\2.0\scripts.That's where it resides.The new script-fu
tab does appear correctly in my image window, however the error I described is
present when I click on the tab.

So far I've tryed colortoalpha, that does some sort of color conversion,
but I am unable to find the right color to start with.
Use the eyedropper to pick the color, then make a note of the color
and use that in Color to Alpha.
