 Hi, thanks for the replies!

 I will explain better:

But a guest is standing in the very right side of the picture...eating.

I want to grab a pattern of that wall and paste it in ...covering the guest

I dont want to crop the picture. I can do that.
I dont want to clone. I can do that.

I want to copy a little piece of that wall pattern and make it fill up the
selection I make and get rid of the guest.

 Lee know,

 .
Maybe try this:

Use the Path tool to mark out a suitable bit of wall
elsewhere in the picture
Path to Selection
Click on the selected area, Edit=Copy
Then Edit =Paste
Go to Layers. Make the Floating Selection into a New Layer.
Go to Move tool.
Move the Pasted area (the wall) where you want it to cover
up the guest.
Then Anchor it, Merge Visible Layers or Flatten Image to fix
it in place.

You'll probably need to fiddle a bit to get a patch of wall
that matches its surroundings properly.
If you can't get a perfect match straight away you can
usually finish off the edges with the clone tool.

It's probably late in the piece, but I just thought I'd add that you
actually
can resize just a layer, both with and without scaling (just as for

 - Layer - Layer Boundary Size (Crops layer)
 - Layer - Scale layer (Resizes layer to scale)

Hi John,

I've replied this email on the list, rather than to you personally, so that
others can help/be helped. I'm not quite sure what you mean by an image
object - GIMP is, in general, a raster editor so we don't really use
objects. You can access the layers dialog by Windows - Dockable Dialogs -
Layers (should be in the second section). That shows a preview list of the
layers you have on your image and you can select the specific layer from
there.

You might wish to read
http://docs.gimp.org/2.6/en/gimp-image-combining.html#gimp-concepts-layersfor
more information about layers.

Kind regards
Xiella

John,

layers, I think you won't find a software package that does that. To
resize all layers, though:

Image - Scale image

To resize only the background, the best you can do, I think is to
paste background layer in another image, and use the option above to
scale that. Then paste it back into the original image, and remove the
original background layer (if you don't need it anymore).

You can, by only permitting subscribers to post to the list, which many
 lists do these days..

This issue has been brought up many times on both gimp-user and
gimp-dev... and making them subscriber only would decrease their
usefulness so is not an option. i'm afraid we just have to live with
the spam.

It's a matter of opinion. I personally find dealing with the spam
