Will use that repo as a start point to create a new Vagrant cluster
running GlusterFS.

rtalur maintains this, although the last commit is a bit old. Also,

It would be awesome to catch up wireshark dissector upto the 4.0 RPC

 Hi Javier,

While glusterfs is the main repo many developers work on, there are many
more projects out there at https://github.com/gluster

Feel free to browse through the repositories, and see if something
 triggers
 your interest.

Some of the things I can suggest are
 * Gluster-Ansible (if you like ansible)
 * With gluster's automation team if you like automation. There are many
jenkins jobs and activities out there. Check with Nigel Babu for more.
 * helping with Gluster's internal metrics monitoring.
 https://github.com/amarts/glustermetrics)
 * If you are aware of openstack, then help with integrations with Manila
 and
 Cinder
 * If you are aware of Kubernetes, then help with integrations with
 operator,
 CSI etc.

And there are more discussions which keep on happening on gluster-devel
mailing list, you can pick up something from here and work on it. Like,
 may
be helping with wireshark dissector for Gluster's 4.0 protocol.

 Regards,
 Amar

There have been changes to "on-the-wire" structure of rpc messages. I guess
Amar meant adding wireshark support for these changes. For the list of

Re: [Gluster-devel] GlusterFS project contribution.

2018-02-17 Thread Javier Romero
Hi Amar,

I've been contributing through the CentOS Storage SIG with the
GlusterFS Github containers repository.
Have created a new Dockerfile for image creation to run containers on
CentOS 7 with GlusterFS 3.13 already installed. Also sent a pull
request on Github to merge a new branch named gluster-3.13 with this
new Dockerfile included. Tested on Centos 7 release 7.4.1708 (Core)
with kernel 3.10.0-693.17.1.el7.x86_64 and works ok:

# docker images
REPOSITORYTAG IMAGE ID
CREATED SIZE
dockerfile-gluster-3.13 latest 07931ac54c87 About
an hour ago 371.9 MB
docker.io/centos7 ff426288ea90
   5 weeks ago207.2 MB

# docker ps -a
CONTAINER IDIMAGE COMMAND
CREATED STATUS PORTS NAMES
4e164d71256fdockerfile-gluster-3.1 3 "/usr/sbin/init" About
an hour agoUp About an hour
backstabbing_babbage

# docker exec -it 4e164d71256f sh
sh-4.2# glusterd -V
glusterfs 3.13.2

Will be working to create a Vagrant Box and VirtualBox VM wirh
GlusterFS just installed, and see how can I provide them to other
users who may want to give them a try.

You talk about the wireshark dissector for Gluster's 4.0 protocol, can
you give me a liitle more information on how can I work on this to see
if I can help?

Thanks for your kindattention.

Regards,

Javier Romero

Re: [Gluster-devel] GlusterFS project contribution.

2018-02-12 Thread Amar Tumballi
Hi Javier,

While glusterfs is the main repo many developers work on, there are many
more projects out there at https://github.com/gluster

Feel free to browse through the repositories, and see if something triggers
your interest.

Some of the things I can suggest are
* Gluster-Ansible (if you like ansible)
* With gluster's automation team if you like automation. There are many
jenkins jobs and activities out there. Check with Nigel Babu for more.
* helping with Gluster's internal metrics monitoring. (
https://github.com/gluster/gluster-prometheus,
https://github.com/amarts/glustermetrics)
* If you are aware of openstack, then help with integrations with Manila
and Cinder
* If you are aware of Kubernetes, then help with integrations with
operator, CSI etc.

And there are more discussions which keep on happening on gluster-devel
mailing list, you can pick up something from here and work on it. Like, may
be helping with wireshark dissector for Gluster's 4.0 protocol.

Regards,
Amar

* Fixing many of bugs tracked at
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/buglist.cgi?bug_status=NEW&bug_status=ASSIGNED&bug_status=POST&classification=Red%20Hat&classification=Community&list_id=8399681&product=GlusterFS&product=Red%20Hat%20Gluster%20Storage&query_format=advanced

Note that there are lots of components involved (see the list of components
in bugzilla for a rough idea). Please take a look and then you can start
concentrating on areas that interest you.

You can also contribute by filing well thought out bugs with good data
(reproducers etc), producing reports of performance in various use-cases,
calling out areas of improvement by constructive criticism. Welcome to the
community :).

Raghavendra
