This sounds like a perfect use case for https://github.com/jdarcy/negative-lookup Jeff Darcy made this as an example of building your own translators. But it basically caches nagative-lookups so repeated asking of the same questions go away. Hell, might be beneficial to make a translator that jus

Dan, Does something like this help for SAMBA? http://www.e-rave.nl/disable-creation-of-ds_store-files-on-samba-shares Negative lookups are a particularly expensive operation on distributed filesystems, GlusterFS in particular. It has to check through each brick to see that the file *really* doesn

I'm rolling out 4 lots of 6-node GlusterFS setups for my employer. Each node is ~33TB of RAID6 backed storage (16x 3TB SATA disks in RAID6 with a hot spare hanging off an LSI controller, with 2x SSDs configured for caching), and Gluster is configured in distribute-replicate. Each cluster is 200TB

How did you set it up? Did you export via NFS on the 10GB and then ran gluster on the IB? OR was it all native mountsŠ.if it was native mountsŠhow did you make it listen on a different interface from the one used by the bricks to talk to each other? I did not think this was possible. Bryan --

The problem was not the open file limit. If I locally mount on a brick a nfs share and use it with Samba it is not stable. I had a crash after copying 800,000 files, I tried a few times with no lock, it always crashed. The most annoying thing is that I didn't find anything in the logs, finally
