Whilst I have either deleted or disabled it I think that it is smart to
change my password ... will do. Physical access to my phone/tablet/pc would
not have been possible so if someone has gained access to my Account it
must have been online.

When you start Google+ for the first time, you shouldn't be following
anybody, so your view should be empty. It's been awhil

Well, as this is a Gmail forum (one run by users, not by Google), I will
keep it brief. If, like me, you use Sprint as your carrier, you probably
can't easily delete Google Plus from your phone. Under Settings, you should
be able to disable it though. Go to Settings, then Apps, then select
Goog
