I tried entering it like this for half an hour and  could not get to enter the values let alone finish the transaction. But I did stumble on a way of doing it and it works for my needs anyway. At least your example pointed me in the right direction to find a solution. So not all wasted.

If you had previous dividends open up one of those transactions, then while the curser is sitting in the description box click Transaction > Duplicate Transaction. Set the date to the correct date, then tab down to the last split line and add a split to the security account. No need to enter any

There are a couple of scenarios where it is desirable to post dividends in the security account even though it does not affect the security, it does affect your ROI. One is for certain report s and the other is when the user reports dividends by ex dividend dates instead of payment dates. On

You deleted the account holding the fund after selling it? Otherwise, and unless you marked it 'hidden' it will always be there. Having activity in it doesn't change that. But you wouldn't have activity in it anyway from a dividend. What *exactly* do you mean by 'reappearing in my account

Last month I sold a mutual fund say XYZ. Several weeks after the sale closed and the calendar date went into the next quarter I received a dividend from XYZ. How do I enter that dividend transaction for XYZ without having it reappearing in my account list and screwing everything else up?
