Re: [GNC] install 2nd app to start over
The reference to the "terminal" suggests a Mac, but I'll defer to PH. PH, it's not clear why you think configuring a transaction report would require any coding; most reports have extensive options to select specific transactions and accounts, so it's really necessary for you to describe what it is that is not happening. I will note that the standard Transaction Report opens without any data initially, and that you must open Options and select accounts to include subsequently. But that doesn't involve coding or the terminal; is just clicking the Options button on the ribbon and selecting things. This is covered in the Tutorial and the Help. David T. [GNC] Quicken Import Matcher
You are looking for the Bayesian matcher for the errant account. You can get to it by clicking on 'Tools' and then selecting 'Import Map Editor'. A new window will open. In that window, make sure that you have selected "Bayesian" to the top question, which should read "What type of information to display?". Now go to the account where you incorrectly accepted the match and then expand it by clicking the arrow in front of it. Highlight the incorrectly added match from the expanded list and click 'Delete' button at bottom to delete the incorrect match that was added by the earlier. -- Message: 5 Date: Fri, 3 Feb 2023 15:42:01 -0600 From: Dale Alspach To: Gnucash Users Subject: [GNC] Quicken Import Matcher Message-ID: Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8" Apparently sometime in the past I made an error when the matcher asked about a brokerage account. [GNC] Huge number of missing transactions
Hi all, I do see a few messages spread over the years about similar issues but most have gone unanswered so I thought I'd create a new one. My partner and I have been jointly using GNUcash for a few years. The XML data files reside on a shared network drive. I recently installed a new Win 10 computer and installed the latest (at the time) 4.11. I did not think about the fact that her system was still running 3.6 - Probably the culprit... Everything seems to have been going fine but yesterday she noticed all the payments into a credit card account were gone, leaving quite a large negative balance. I looked further and discovered this was true for many accounts but I do not believe any accounts were missing or completely empty. I went into the shared directory and could easily see by the file size that a large data reduction recently occurred as the size suddenly drops from ~900KB to ~600KB. There is also a 17MB (136325 lines) log file in that same time period. Not so much had happened in the few days after that file size drop so I exported some new transactions that had been manually entered in the (corrupted) file and saved one of the earlier files as the new data file. I updated both machines to the latest stable 4.13 build, imported those new transactions and just for kicks, ran the repair function which did not throw any messages so presumably nothing was fixed. Things seem to be fine but it occurred to me that it would be useful if I understood better what the log files actually might reveal and if they also show actions taken by the program? It seems pretty clear that each new transaction generates a log entry but I'm unsure how deletions, moved items, etc., are marked in the logs. I'm guessing the letters in the 'mod' column between Start & End mean something but not sure what. I presume and hope that something about managing and saving the same data file under both versions is what caused the mishap but it would be good to understand the situation better so all thoughts welcome. And presuming sharing files between different program version is a danger (which it likely is), I guess it would be helpful if opening an account file would trigger a cancel message if it was last saved by a different version, particularly a newer version. [GNC] "Nested" Expense Category Report
I am trying to produce a report of expenses that follows the tree structure of accounts under Expenses. For example, I'd like something like this: Auto $6.50 Fees $150.00 Gas $250.00 Parking $40.25 Repair and Maintenance $2000.00 Tolls $40.00 Total Auto$2486.75 Instead, I get this: Auto $6.50 Fees $150.00 Gas $250.00 Parking $40.25 Repair and Maintenance $2000.00 Tolls $40.00 There is no indication of the nested structure of the accounts and no subtotals for the group. [GNC] Best way to link an overpaid invoice and credit note?
I have 4 transactions in my GnuCash accounts to a vendor RS with whom I have an account, and must pay by 20th of the following month. The amount of all the transactions is entered correctly, with a total of £322.70. I then put one payment in GnuCash, which was a split payment for all 4 transactions. However, when actually paying RS from my mobile banking app, I paid £332.70 instead of £322.70. So there's an overpayment of £10. So when RS invoiced me again, it they have deducted £10 due to the overpayment. I don't know the best way to handle this. I obviously need to change the payment in GnuCash to be £10 more than before. But I'm unsure how I can now pay those 4 transactions, plus an extra £10, unless I delete them all, then try to pay the 4, but change the amount GnuCash suggests, to an extra £10. Should I unpost them? I was thinking of creating an asset account, and calling it something like 'credit notes', and moving the £10 to there. But next time I pay RS, which will be for several hundred pounds, how could GnuCash be told to credit the credit note by £10, and credit the bank account by the rest? Re: [GNC] install 2nd app to start over
Well, if it sounds reasonable. Installing a newer version will retain your records and may solve the issue. I'm assuming you've gone to the help files to learn how to create the transaction reports. They are not necessarily intuitive and may draw from different settings. Just be sure to back everything up first. I don't know how long you've been using gnucash or what platform you have, but I also don't know if that would make a difference in this case. Just DO back everything up. (Says the gal who has been using Gnucash for 5 months.) Re: [GNC] install 2nd app to start over
thanks phyllis i'm having a lot of trouble with creating transaction reports. and the solutions seem to involve going into terminal and getting code to identify a bug. to do this i'll have to take my laptop to a computer shop or find someone who can help me. i have not done this as i've been so busy, so i'm looking for an easier way for me to work around my problem yesterday i tried to create a transaction report, clicked on options and it just ignored me. other issues involve not being able to scroll down the whole list past page 1, etc. ph ~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~: writer ~:~ photographer ~:~ book designer resident manager paulahendricks.com On Thu, Feb 2, 2023 at 10:35 AM Phyllis Bruce wrote: > Why don't you just start another gnucash file?
