[GNC] Income & Expense Reports

2018-04-11 Thread Richard Marmor
I'm relatively new to Gnucash (now running 2.6.21 in Win 8.1). I
have been unable to find answers online to two issues I have when
creating Income & Expense reports in Gnucash.
   Issue 1: Year-To-Date Column
I have found no way to add a YTD column to a monthly I & E report.
   Is it even possible?
I have been able to create a multi-column custom report, with one
half being a complete current month report and the other half
being a complete YTD report, but that is a really poor substitute.
For one thing, for any given account there may be no entries in
the current month, while YTD that account may have a balance. So
unless I want really long reports listing every account and and
lots of zeros, there is little or no parallelism between the two
   side-by-side reports.
Issue 2: Net Losses as Negative
Where I grew up, net losses always appeared as negative numbers
following the description "Net Profit/(Loss)." Gnucash insists
on reflecting them as positive numbers beside a "Net Loss" title.
That issue actually passes through to the balance sheet as well,
it being more descriptive to see a positive Equity figure reduced
by a negative "Retained Earnings/(Losses)" figure.
Is there a way to effect this change?
If the answers are "not possible" to those issues, I would strongly
like to see them added to a future features agenda.
   Thank you for any help.

I updated GNU-cash last month with the update and am unable to open
my accounts now I keep getting an error message saying ?Gnucash
could not obtain the lock for [2]file://C: followed by the path and
underbit saying the database is in use by another user. If I ask it
to open anyway it just all closes down. I am running windows 10!
 Many thanks
 Lesley

Tried a few simple things without success to noavail. I reinstalled
2.6.21, and everything works fine. Interesting tho, every time I
 tried
to run the 3.0 version there was a lock on the data even tho I had
 never
been able to open any data. Id' love to be able to use 3.0 but not
 yet

[GNC] 3.0 Install Fails

2018-04-19 Thread Richard Marmor
In Windows 8.1 I run 2.6.21 without problems; 3.0 is another story.
3.0 will not install at all. Installation attempts freeze about 33%
   into the
install process. I have tried 4 times including using different
   downloads in
case of corrupted files, always with the same result.
I did manage to get 3.0 to install with Windows in Safe Mode, but after
   re-
turning to Regular Mode, when 3.0 starts up, I receive an error message
   that
Gnucash is seeking a disk in an obscure back (memory card) drive, and I
   can't
make the message go away or move past it.
For the record, what I could see of 3.0 looked odd, too, kind of spread
   out,
not identical to the 2.6 versions I had run.
I ultimately had no choice but to uninstall 3.0 and reinstall 2.6.21.

[GNC] Add a Line-Feed to Report Title

2019-01-27 Thread Richard Marmor

In Gnucash 2.6.21, the standard report title for an Income Statement reads:

(Company Name)(Report Title) For Period Covering (start date) to
(end date)

which for my purposes is too lengthy.

In the report's generator file, income-statement.scm, I found this:

(gnc:html-document-set-title!
 doc (sprintf #f
 (string-append "%s %s "
  (_ "For Period Covering %s to %s"))
 company-name report-title
   (gnc-print-date start-date-printable)
   (gnc-print-date end-date-tp)))

Can someone tell me how to modify it so as to insert a line feed so the report
title will appear on two lines as:

(Company Name)(Report Title)
For Period Covering (start date) to (end date)

I am not a programmer. I tried reading some of the help information among the
SCM files, but frankly it was all Greek to me.

Help...

Thanks!

Re: [GNC] I just need a line feed

2019-02-07 Thread Richard Marmor
Thank you for the prompt reply!
   It worked!
After a couple of failed tries, I found that it works if the is
inserted inside of the closing quotes:
   (string-append "%s %s "
   Much appreciated.

Have you tried adding at the end of the "%s %s" above?
