The issue is that when you launch from Finder there's no shell so GnuCash can't
see your MacPorts environment changes. Try launching GnuCash from a shell
window that does have the MacPorts environment.

in the Rosetta instance. No doubt it's lost now but I wonder if during the

You're right that GnuCash doesn't know what to do with a Finder alias file.
You could of course use your GnuCash file directly from ~/Dropbox.

adopted in January? If so it would be useful to collect the URIs for obtaining
the new online credentials in
