I remember the controversy over the Air India calender mentioned by Rene
Barreto as I happened to be in Goa during that period (1988-89). It was not
that the calender cheapened the image of Goan women, but it described Goans
as descendents of the Portuguese!

In April 1999 (to think that I've been corresponding with strangers since
that long back!!) I wrote an e-mail to Rough Guides editor Arnold
Barkhordarian pointing out some factual errors in their Rough Guide to Goa
book.

(either Rajastani or Kashmiri) gives a cheap image about us,
rajasthani and kashmiri etc, vendors being in goa,
does not automatically make them an integral part of
Goa's touristic landscape. Goan people and Goan
vendors are enough to promote Goa overseas.
