[Goanet] H Britton
H Britton Besides the popular songs like Bandra Festa, Bus Conductor, Marialina, Beauty Queen of Goa etc etc I also remember him as a ‘Man in colourful sarees’ I could still picturise his role as beautiful looking woman with equally colorful lady's umbrella swirling over his houlder. At Margao Rajendra Prasad Stadium where all tiatr were staged at night around 10.30pm, seeing the lady is called back again and again, I asked my mother ‘Konn ghe maim ti bhail(u)?’ My Mother replied ‘ Ti bhail nu baba, to dadulo, H Biritton’ Last time I saw him dressed like a woman in October 2007 at Kala Academy Tiatr Competition. see pic/video About 3 years ago, when H Britton was acting in ‘Ekuch Rosto’ remake by Anil Kumar, I had gone there at KA (during interval) to hand over some A4 size stage group pics which I had taken during the previous show. At this time, I tried inviting H Britton and two others to join us for dinner after the show which was to end around 10pm. (I was then residing near Campal). They said ‘will try’ one of them asked my cell number and I quickly dictated him and within seconds he went on stage to sing his solo. When they say ‘They will try’ and also cell number was not given in writing, I was pretty sure they are not coming ( 99.9% sure). To my surprise, just after 10pm I got a call only to say they are coming.. I quickly ordered 2 chiken tandoori and other stuff, ordered some chilled sodas and beer, we hand plenty of other drinking stuff but not chilled as we unplugged our fridge as we were to leave for UK next morning at 8am. As we were drinking, H Britton said ‘Cheddea, tonddam galpa kiteim asa zalear hadd’ (..get some snacks if you have please), we had nothing in the house. Soon the door bell rings. I said thank God! It was the delivery boy After the dinner, they left at around midnight. As said yesterday, one of the 3 tiatrists spotted me yesterday on the main road (We were 4), he stopped and asked ‘Excuse me, are you not the same with whom we (with H Britton) had dinner some years ago?’ Although I knew him, I reluctantly said ‘yes’ and we talked about H Britton..he said he is not going to make it again on stage.. and the time was 4.30pm. Later on, we found out H Britton died same day at 4pm. People come and people go, Leaving behind their good memories Good bye H Britton. [Goanet] Hindu and Catholic names
Hey Mario, What about your name? Is it Greek?. In Goa your surname has been basterdized as Goyoh! Were your ancestors hung by their feet and deposited in a banho for conversion? Just asking! BC Hey, Bernardo What are YOU doing with a strange Portuguese sounding name?that?your ancestors were forced to take by some Jesuit priest who was twisting their arm with one hand?while he was baptizing them with his other hand? You have obviously been gone from Goa far too long and still think of names as Hindu and Bridish - while carrying a Portuguese name yourself. Are you being a comedian, or what?
[Goanet] Motesh Antao of Colamb under arrest at Quepem Police Station
Colamb villager Motesh Antao has been arrested at Quepem Police Station today morning at 9.15 am. he was called to the police station to collect information he had sought detail information of three police officials - PI Santosh Desai, PSI Prakash Desai and HC Arvind Nagekar- under Right to Information Act 2005 (RTI). According to the sources Motesh was threatened at the police station for filing application under RTI and then under the garb of some previous - yet to be known cases - was detained and arrest proceedings initiated against him. It is not yet known as what are the contends of his RTI letters that jittered police officials to such an extend to behave in this uncalled for, vengeful manner. According to police officials at Quepem police station Motesh Antao has been arrested under sections 143, 341 and 506 read with 149 of Indian Penal Code (IPC). Date of offence is not yet known. You may call up Qupem Police Station at its land line: 0832-2662253 and find out the latest on this matter. Motesh Antao called up from the custody of Police at around 10.10 am and informed that he has been taken for medical check up. His call came from land line: 0832-2662253. Just as he was giving details of his arrests his phone line got cut after background voice of accompanying police officer that you have to inform only that you are arrested and nothing more. What is tragic in this whole episode still unfolding is that the citizen is called at the police station to collect information sought under RTI and then threatened and arrest effected on previous cases. This is indeed a very very sad day for democracy in India. We need to mourn the death soon and help democracy resurrect again. Motesh Antao is a torch bearer that all the freedom loving people of the world ought to be proud of for people of Colamb are indeed continuously extending boundaries of democracy, boundaries of freedom via their practice. [Goanet] 35th Tiatr Competition - Fulantlem Moum
35th Tiatr Competition - Fulantlem Moum My name is Sanferd, the only child/son of a reach parents. Money? No problem! If others get Rs.50 a day as pocket money, I get Rs.500. Friends? I have them plenty around. Where there is honey there are bees, remember? Cars/Bikes? I am expert. Sometimes I takes my Dad’s jeep too. All I have to do is ‘Ask my Mom’ Driving license? Who cares, ‘Pulis mhojea bolsant’ What about Girls? ‘ye kya puchne ki baat hai’? I am dating almost two at a time. I change them like women change their sarees. But there is one girl named Eudora, I keep trying for her and she refuses all the time. One day I approached her politely, expressing my love to her. To this I got a big lecture from her and that too in front of my many friends. The things she said about me were echoing in my ears and really made me to look myself into the mirror for the first time. It has change my life. I am now not the same Sanferd I used to be. That’s it! I made up my mind, Eudoro is the one for me and would do anything to make her mine. I am serious, I look upon no other girls now. One problem, infact big problem, Eudoro is dying and needed an urgent life saving operation. The operation was supposed to have done 15 years ago but the poor father put it off as they could not afford it. I met the father and assured all financial help. I got my dad’s support too. At the hospital, the doctors said it is too late and complicated now and gave only 15% chances of success/survival. Hurray! The operation is successful. Eudora getting ready for discharge, someone asked where is Sanferd? Father says ‘he is inside clearing the hospital bills’ My father said to Eudora ‘ Can’t wait to see you in our home as our daughter-in-law’ What? Said Eudora and continues.. ‘I will never ever marry your son’ When I heard her saying this, Imagine what I must be going through! I really loved her you know! What’s the point? What’s the point when she does not love me? Money may buy everything But money can’t buy love That’s it! I accept defeat. What a heart breaking tragedy! The end part reminded me of one bollywood movie ‘Sadma’ (SriDevi/Kamla Hasan) A tiatr ‘FULANTLEM MOUM’ (honey from flower?) written by Antoni Manuel de Araujo (Cujira, St. Cruz). It’s one of the 13 tiatr staged at Kala Academy on 24th Sept. 2009 as a part of 35th Tiatr Competition. I like the tiatr, songs and acting. Almost Half of the actors were non-Christians. Infact, JoeGoaUk’s top prize for best actor goes jointly to Sanferd (Samir Shabi Gadekar) and Eudora (Meenakxi Narvekar). They really did not sound like Hindus. Tiatr directed by Sandeep Kalangutkar and the band by Agnelo Dias. The other main non-Christians actors were Comedy Teacher- Madam Braganza – Madhuri Shetkar, Comedy -Sir Tension, Dnyanesh Parsekar etc. Professional tiatrist were: Elvis Sequeira as Eudora’s father and Carmen Sequeira as Sanferd mother. There was a trio or a duo praising Parrikar as the best CM of Goa ever had. Child actors Sonali Naik and Micah Fernandes were at their best. Beside Elvis’s son Elmer too sang a comedy solo and by Hashvaine Fernandes which is also well receive by all. [Goanet] A tribute to H. Britton
Yesterday, September 24, 2009, at around 6:30 p.m. another star from the Konkani celestial world, Hermegildo Camilo, popularly known to tiatr lovers as 'H. Britton', faded into the oblivion. Originally, H. Britton hailed from Agasaim but he settled in Britona in the mid Sixties. Maybe that's why he took his stage name as 'Britton' for people to know that he came from the new place and not from his original place. In the past and even now it has been a fashion for tiatrists to add the name of the place they hail from to their names. For e.g., M. Dod de Verna, Bab Peter de Anjuna, Marcelino de Betim, Lawrence de Tiracol, Francis de Tuem, etc. Until around the middle of the last century, no females were allowed to act in Konkani tiatros, as it was considered below women's dignity. Female roles were played by males like the late Vincent de Saligão, the late Aristides, Remie Colaco, etc. However, we had one seasoned Konkani stage artist for around four decades who earned a name for himself by singing songs dressed as a female - he was none other than the talented H. Britton. H. Britton was one of the Konkani stage humorists who has entertained Goans with a variety of songs for over four decades and won accolades for his singing and acting, especially in imitating women's fashion on the stage. Many, who saw him on the stage for the first time, couldn't believe he was a male because he dressed and behaved exactly like a woman. He mostly sang solos dressed as a female. He wore a maxi or draped a sari below his navel and over that he wore a short blouse with deep neck. He held a ladies handbag in his hand or placed it on his shoulder. He used colorful umbrellas matching his dresses/saris. He wore ladies high heel shoes and gave a cat walk on the stage. He wore a pair of Ray Ban glasses and emulated a Gulfee's wife of the 1960s and 1970s. He used just enough lipstick and rouge to give him that female appearance. He had a big collection of wigs. Obviously, he needed them in order to enact the several female roles he played! He was the darling of the audience! A Goa State awardee around 21 years ago, H. Britton carved a niche for himself not only in Goa but also in Mangalore and other parts of India, as well as in the Gulf, especially in Kuwait, where he was employed for a brief period. He was a crowd puller from the 1970s through the 1990s! He was one of the few actors after the late M. Boyer to be encored for almost every song - the public just loved his singing style and dress attire; they had fallen in love with him! His famous songs Bandra Festak, Pandu Lampianv, Kanknnankar You are my Sonia - a duet with Lorna, etc. will live forever in our minds. Here are the lyrics of a comedy song Amchea Bapa (Our Father) taken from H. Britton's cassette titled 'GOEM KONNACHEM - Vol.12. AMCHEA BAPA by H. Albert writes:- H Britton passed away leaving back sentiments. I call him a great artist .There are many things which all of us have to appreciate of him. His role as a lady was superb. His way of dressing a sari would make any fashionable lady jealous. His voice was superb. Marlon Menezes wrote: You make it sound like as if Fred has done a bad thing in raising goanet. He IS the person who has put in most of the grunt work in establishing Goanet as Goa's premier discussion forum. I for one salute Fred's presistence in keeping this forum going. You may call him Godfather, I call him Goanet's Patron Saint. --- Dear Marlon, 1) I used the Godfather book/movie as an example and did not refer to Frederick as Godfather. Please re-read my posting. Many years back I had referred to Frederick as the 'foster father' of GoaNet to differentiate him from Herman who is the Father of GoaNet . Perhaps you are confusing the two. 2) This confusion in your mind become increasingly evident when you say I characterise Frederick's 'raising' of GoaNet as a 'bad thing'. Please re-read my posting and understand that I am trying to bring the phrase FN's GoaNet into popular usage as a tribute to his tireless efforts in nurturing and sustaining this vibrant and partly democratic forum. 3) I have no problem to calling Frederick the Patron Saint of GoaNet. I think that is an excellent suggestion on your part. Another fitting tribute to the man who has selflessly moderated GoaNet in a transparent fashion for so many years. Cheers! Cecil --- - Original Message From: Cecil Pinto cecilpi...@gmail.com Look at Godfather. When we refer to the book we say Mario Puzo's Godfather. When we refer to the movie we say Francis Ford Coppola's Godfather. Similarly I suggest we start refering to GoaNet as Frederick Noronha's GoaNet or FN's GoaNet to avoid confusion in the years to come. No disrespect to Herman Carneiro who founded GoaNet or Bosco D'Mello who does most of the work, but we all know it is Frederick Noronha' baby finally. It is Frederick who 'raised' GoaNet and continues to nurture and protect it valiantly from real and imagined attackers. I think it will be a fitting tribute to our Frederick's effort to have GoaNet named after him. Anyone objecting to my proposal of referring to GoaNet as Frederick Noronha's GoaNet please state your objections clearly. We need not change the name or anything. Just common usage will do. --

[Goanet] Goodbye Goa ahoy ghantis
There is very little sand on our beaches to bury your head. What about Sikkim, Nagaland, Assam, Hyderabad, Goa Damao and Diu, and Andaman Islands that were forcibly colonized. A colony therefore became a colonizer innit mate? Please read the UN information. BC Is it information exchanged between two colonial powers?? No, it is a treaty between one ex-colonial power and one?power that used to be a colony. I?posted it to counter your arrant and oft-repeated poppycock about modern Goa being illegal while forcibly colonized Goa was somehow legal.

[Goanet] God and you
Albert writes:- Who is a true Christian ? Is it one who goes for mass everyday and prays the whole day ? I had a job to be done one day and entered an office. It was three in the afternoon and someone pointed to a clerk whose eyes were closed in prayer. She was a Christian and prayed everyday at three. I waited anxiously for fifteen minutes but she would not open her eyes that means she will not do my work and that means I will have to go home and come back again. I got restless and shook her to wake her up. She looked at me sternly. What kind of a Christian are you ? she asked me. One must pray at three for half an hour to remember that Jesus died at that time of the day. My answer to her was Madam you should not pray at three but you should pray the whole day. Take voluntary retirement and stay at home. You are not paid to pray. Many times we judge people from outward behaviour. The true Christian is the one who is practical in his or her life style. Simple. One day I was seated in a bank waiting for my turn to go the cashier. I could see an elderly man entering the bank with a walking stick in my hand. I could have got up to help him get down the steps but I was engrossed in my own thoughts and pride. Next to me a lady at least five six years older to me was seated. Looking at her I knew she was not a Christian lady. She ran up the door and caught his hand brought him down and made him sit . Asked him why he was there . He wanted to withdraw money .She went to one counter brought a withdrawl slip filled it for him and got the money for him. She counted the amount and helped him put it in his purse. By the time I finished my work I saw her bring a rickshaw to help him go home . _ Live Search extreme As India feels the heat of poll season, get all the info you need on the MSN News Aggregator http://news.in.msn.com/National/indiaelections2009/aggregator/default.aspx
