[Goanet] LONDON: Remembering Lancelot Ribeiro at the Victoria and Albert Museum, 16 March | Burgh House Retracing Ribeiro exhibition to 19 March

2017-03-10 Thread Dom Martin

Yet another affirmation that upon demise — self-inflicted or fate-afflicted —
an artist becomes a marketable IPO in the art world’s cabalistic Wall Street.
Prior to that, the artist remains walled-off from prosperity for posterity’s
random inheritance and unjust enrichment! However, there is an even more
somber offspring to this tragic irony. Just because the public has been
notified of an artist’s change of address in the obituary columns does not
necessarily mean resurrection is imminent or in the drifting horizon!

Am happy for you, Lance!

[Goanet] AIFF REPORT: THE BOYS ARE EAGER TO CONTIBUTE SOMETHING: LUIS NORTON (2nd Part of interview of Luis Norton de Matos)

2017-03-10 Thread AIFF Media
Dear Colleagues,

Please find below the second part of the interview of Mr. Luis Norton de
Matos, India’s U-17 World Cup coach

--
THE BOYS ARE EAGER TO CONTRIBUTE SOMETHING: LUIS NORTON

*By Nilanjan Datta,AIFF Media Team*

*NEW DELHI: *India’s U-17 World Cup coach Luis Norton de Matos has been
“impressed with the attitude of the boys.” In the second part of the
interview, Norton speaks about the attitude of the boys, the time left for
the World Cup, his Indian connection and much more. *EXCERPTS:*

*What is your first impression of the boys?*

Prior to coming to India, I had watched some highlights of the Team but as
you understand, it's entirely different when you see the boys on the pitch
yourself and what you see in a highlight package on the internet. I started
training my boys only last week and to be honest, it’s too early to have an
impression about them.

*What have you seen so far?*

In the few training sessions which I have had so far, I have seen the boys
giving their heart and soul to the practice sessions. They have never shied
away at any time and it is always so good for a Coach that they want to
learn. I have found that they are a bundle of energy and are very eager to
contribute something to Indian Football history.

*You came on board with just eight months left for the tournament. How
challenging is the task on hand?*

Personally, it is a big challenge for me. But as a Coach, I am confident in
my philosophy for the development of Indian players and Football in the
long run. As I have already said, it’s now only about the World Cup but
about India’s vision for the future.

*Is it enough to prepare the team?*

I feel eight months is a long time to prepare a team. You could have been a
bit concerned if you had just two months in your hand. But when you stay
and train together for the next eight months, to me it’s not much of a
concern. I think time is not our biggest enemy.

*Are the boys willing to learn?*

The attitude of the boys has impressed me very much. As young players, I
have found out that they are willing to learn. That’s most important to me.
Make no mistake, I am a very hard task master but the boys have lived up to
my expectations.

*What prompted you to take up the coaching job of the Indian U-17 team.*

I like coaching young players and am always prepared for different
challenges in life. That’s why I am into Football because, at every step,
football provides you challenges and burdens you with responsibility. I
cannot live without that. I also want to contribute in a small manner to
AIFF’s vision in developing and promoting Football. I am ready to fight for
even the slightest of chances and will always do that.

*You have said that you do have an Indian connection as your great
grandfather was born in Goa. Anything you heard about Indian football
before taking up this assignment. *

India is a sentimental name in my family. I have been hearing about India
since my childhood as the brother of my great-grandfather was born here. I
have so many stories about and had always cherished a dream of being here.
I even remember during one of those early Christmas day parties back in
Portugal tears rolled down my cheeks as the Indian curry was too spicy for
me.

It’s amazing that I am here. It is a special and positive atmosphere and
whatever little I have moved around in Goa, its reminds me of my home. Goa,
after all, was a Portuguese colony and there are many who speak the
language too. My family is very happy that I am here. I have worked in
Africa and Europe but this is a special place for me. Only the other day,
two of my family doctors were on a vacation to Goa and told me that it was
one of the best holidays which they ever had.

But I hadn’t heard much about Indian Football except for seeing some
highlights of the team which I am coaching.

Why did they two on Previous day, Saturday, visit the St. Jose Vaz shrine
Sancoale Church and disturb Mass, and one went to the alter, was told to go
back, was it naive too to forget it the next day? Are they on some drugs?

[Goanet] Desecration of host at Rcahol

2017-03-10 Thread Nelson Lopes
The desecration of hosts at Rachol

The role played by the P.P has rightly come in for appreciation and that of
police too for limiting the damage. .The belief and faith in sacred host as
body and blood of Christ is central to our religion. The faithful are
scandalized but may not necessarily seek retribution and punishment, But
forgiveness has another side to it and that is penance and repentance which
cannot be underplayed. Many may not be satisfied with the decision but
wiser counsel did prevail instead of literally baying for blood and swift
action. There is no limit to forgiveness by catholics as the bible quotes
77 times seven, . The sacredness , miracles of Eucharist is available in
many instances and scientifically documented as heart muscle and human
blood even identifying the blood group .For skeptics and these two
students their doubts or beliefs is not germane to the catholic religion.
.Nevertheless trivializing the incident is not in good spirit, The fact
that they tried to document the event of their ignorance and stupidity is a
serious matter of discussion and concern that defies their expalnation of
justification and simplicity as unpalnned

In the past in Goa and elsewhere in India the desecration was vandalisng
the places of worships, crosses, monuments, shrines, cemeteries, violating
religious persons taking vow of celibacy etc were order of the day,. Taking
away the host without knowledge is also sacrilegious and it has happened.,
but the maner of desecration is unique that defies rational behaviuor of
knowledgable adults.

During the time of Christ, Pilot washed his hands and condemn Jesus to
death. Others mercileslly scourged Jesus, spat on him, mocked him by
putting on himthe robes of the King. Finally he was brutally nailed to
the cross, The centurion who pierced his side to test, if he was alive was
restored of his eyesight. The doubting Thomas committed great offence too.
One jeered him by quenching his thirst by vinegar. These any many more
incidents in the Bible show how Jesus in human form and as a person and God
tolerated the pain , suffering and humiliation. The one on the cross
doubted his divinity and ridicule him too, But Jesus before his last
breadth said “ Father forgive them for they know not what they do” All
these atrocities on the person of Jesus , the God are far more grave,
scandalous, sacrilegious that should have called for most severe and
stringent action etc then the incident at Rachol. Is the apology written
or otherwise through the Principal, parents not sufficient enough to close
the incident in the spirit of forget and forgive?, The year of mercy has
just been concluded, but we tend to forget what we celebrated and why.. It
also the period of lent that has relevance and significance to the
distasteful event, The faithful at Rachol have demonstrated calm and peace
by not taking law into their own hands and by not displaying emotional
spontaneous outbursts of violenceand reatliation Finally God has said
that revenge is mine, God`s way are not our ways and hence displeasure
,action will be rightly reserved to Him

[Goanet] wealth of Dr A P abdul kalam

2017-03-10 Thread Nelson Lopes
How rich was Dr A P Abdul Kalam

Election results are due to be announced and candidates are waiting with
bathed breadth forfavourable outcome, What is uppermost in their minds.
Overtly they will express welfare of the people and service to their fellow
men, But we all know once in office they want to serve themselves and soon
become crorepatis. Their ambitions are self enrichment and to die with
boots on

Are there in takers for the simplicity, honesty of Dr Abdul Kalam He was
the Peole`s President for one term and 5 decades of public service, But
what his wealth on death.? He owned precious little, but neither did he
live in penury nor life of luxury, He supported himself with his pension
and royalty on books .The last 8 years of his pension was donated to his
village and so also a flat he owned. No records of any properties in his
name. A wrist watch, a pair of shoes, 6 shirts, 4 pants, He owned no TV,
AC,fridge or car, shares land , bank balance. Presents received by him as
the President were all sent diligently to Govt, Toshakkhana He entertained
no personal presents except in the form of books, After demitting office of
the President, TV in his drawing room was used by the staff, He got the
news from radio and news papers.

Mockingly or jokingly his wealth constitutes an email Id, Twitter account
and website, Padmashri, Bharat ratna, padmabhusan, doctorates and numerous
awards , His pioneering contribution to science remains his greatest asset
to the Nation

If our legislators and Parliamentarians were to take a leaf out of his
book of life, politics would no longer be dirty and good, honest people
would come to fore in public life It is greed and selfishness that has
brought Indian politics in bad repute

The trend now is infact:
- To label the Tolerant, Intolerant,
The intolerants can do what they feel like.
- To Disrespect other’s religion,
but respect the person who disrespects religion.
- To extenuate an Offence
instead of accepting wrong done and censuring the offender.

BITS Pilani Administration should infact hold an inquiry into this and
rusticate these student for disgracing the Institute.

Over the last five years the BJP government in Goa has been enveloped in
confusion, contradictions and controversies with rampant Corruption and
nepotism for all to see. Less said the better on those two BJP Advocate
Generals Atmaram Nadkarni and Saresh Lotlikar who have ravaged and merrily
taken Goa for a ride.

As the First Law officer of the State, the Advocate General is expected to
be extremely honest, sincere and competent in giving invaluable fair legal
guidance to the State Government in formulation of its policy and execution
of its decisions.

The Advocate General should never be someone who has a lust or greed for
wealth or having vested interest with any lobby but has always to ensure
the State’s best interests at heart.

The Advocate General as the Leader of the Bar should act as role model to
the legal fraternity by upholding impeccable integrity and the highest
ethical standards while never ever misleading, misguiding or manipulating
the Court.

[Goanet] ALINA IS CONFIDENT OF GOD DECISION

2017-03-10 Thread Stephen Dias
Dear Editors

I read in one of the dailies a statement made by Alina Saldanha that she
keeps her faith in GOD for getting herself elected on BJP ticket.
Being a catholic person I am sure she will have more faith in Catholic GOD
rather than Hindu GOD.
Hindu GOD will say since she joined us definitely we will help her to win.
But Catholic GOD will say how can a Hindu GOD will help her when she is a
Catholic? Both the GOD'S will have a tussle and let us see which GOD accept
her prayers.
That means, if she is a winner than it is HINDU GOD and if she looses it is
a CATHOLIC GOD.
Interesting statement by ALINA bai! Lets us see which GOD wins. Tomorrow we
will know the verdict of her GOD.

assigning zero value to future consequences

?The election had taught these kids that a large part of their country
no longer holds political candidates to the standards of behavior
enforced by their own high school. ?It seemed like there was nothing he
could do to?not?get elected,? as one of the young women put it. And if
Trump was able to get himself elected even after he had said the things
he had said, and done the things he had done, it was impossible to
imagine what he could say or do to get himself thrown out of office. Any
charges brought against him would be denied and dismissed as
conspiracies of the ?liberal media? or the ?elites.? The grown-ups
running the country, the teenagers concluded, no longer acknowledged the
difference between ?true? and ?false? or ?right? and ?wrong.? This Trump
game felt, at least to a bunch of teenagers, unwinnable.

Politicians often stiff the future on behalf of the present, but no one
in the political landscape has cut so many Draconian bargains with the
future as Trump. An indifference to the long term is one of the keys to
his behavior. His treatment of his fellow human beings has left him in
the odd position of having no real friends. His treatment of his
lenders, for example?his willingness to borrow money he does not
repay?has led many Wall Street banks to refuse to do business with him.
He?s proved no more accountable for the words he speaks than for the
money he borrows. He lies in the moment in the most sensational ways
without the usual concern of what might happen to him when his lie is
exposed. His life strategy has always been to maximize the returns for
himself in the moment, while assigning zero value to future consequences
of his actions.

*MAHATMA GANDHI HAS INSPIRED MED A LOT: LUIS NORTON*

* By Nilanjan Datta,*

*AIFF Media Team*

*NEW DELHI: *India’s U-17 World Cup Team coach Luis Norton de Matos says he
has been “hugely inspired by Mahatma Gandhi.” In the first of the
two-series interview after taking charge of the U-17 World Team Luis spoke
at length about the positives of the team, his meeting with Mr. Patel and
National Coach Stephen Constantine, the preparatory plans, looking at new
players and much more.*EXCERPTS:*

*The boys have been together since February 2013. What have been the
positives?*

I am comfortable and also confident with the work which was done before.
The boys have played so many games, there has been a scouting process in
place – for sure there are a lot of positive things. My job will be to give
offer my knowledge and experience to keep the positive things moving.

Every coach is different. In Football there are no bad or good coaches.
Obviously in the long run, results determine a coach but at the same time,
you cannot ignore the work which is being done. It’s understandable that
every coach wants to win and I am no exception to that. I will take the
positive work in my stride and work the manner that’s best suited for the
boys and the team.

*How was your meeting with the AIFF President?*

Mr. Patel came across as a passionate person with an open mind and
conscience. He understands the challenge of the Indian team playing in the
World Cup and he assured his best to help the project. It has been under
his leadership that many development projects have been started and I am
happy to participate and help. It was a very fruitful meeting which we had
and he came across as an honest and practical man.

*You also met National Coach Stephen Constantine. What did you discuss?*

Mr. Constantine was very kind and the conversation helped me a lot. He gave
me all everything I need as I go forward. I appreciate his gesture. His
support staff – Mr. Ramos and Mr. Danny who worked with the boys have also
been generous with their help, providing me all details and the data. Mr.
Constantine worked with the boys for a week and his inputs were very
valuable.

*Have you zeroed down on the preparatory plan?*

The plan is to travel to different countries for the boys to have an idea
of what to expect in the World Cup. It will help them prepare in the best
possible fashion. The first six weeks are extremely important as I need to
know every player. We need to build the team as a whole and not just
concentrate on 13-14 players. For me, the team is of utmost importance.
It’s ‘we’ and never ‘I.’

*Would you be looking at new players? And how?*

Definitely. The door for players will stay open till the date of the
submission of the registered list. I trust the people looking for players
in India and to me they are most important people in the entire project. We
are all working together for a cause – the overall development of Indian
Football. We need to find the best possible players for the National Team.

*Have you set any specific targets as far as results are concerned with
this team, or if not yet do you intend to?*

As part of the preparation, we need to play stronger teams. There is no
point winning against weaker teams and winning comfortably. The World Cup
will be a different challenge. There is a huge difference in the standards
between the National Teams and people in India understand that.

*Given the fact that you have a connection with India, have you ever been
inspired by any Indian individual?*

Mahatma Gandhi has been a huge inspiration in my life. Ever since I watched
‘Gandhi’ the film, he has personally motivated me and added to my strength.
He gave me the belief that you can fight for what you want, even if your
chances look minimal. I believe that’s is the reason he is revered to not
only in India but all over the World.

*(The last part of the interview will be published on Saturday, March 11,
2017).*

[Goanet] MAY TAXPAYERS NOT BE BURDENED

2017-03-10 Thread Aires Rodrigues
At the last Goa Assembly elections held in 2012, of the 40 MLAs 19 were new
faces. The BJP government held a two day orientation programmme for those
MLAs at Hotel Mandovi in Panaji which cost the tax payers Rs 4, 87,880.

For that orientation held from 10 to 4 pm, Rs 2, 13, 225 was spent on lunch
and refreshments while a handful of MLAs also needlessly chose to park
themselves at the hotel for the night and make merry at the cost of the
State exchequer.

Of the five MLAs who stayed at the hotel, Ganesh Gaonkar topped the list
with his possibly very spirited room bill for the night being Rs 15,123,
while the room bill of Mahadev Naik and Ramesh Tawdakar was Rs 2620. Anant
Shet’s bill was Rs 2972 while Carlos Almeida’s bill with a peg or two added
up to Rs 4464. With Anant Shet’s future already sealed, the other four
would know tomorrow if they too will go to bed as former MLAs.

With lots of new faces likely to be MLAs tomorrow, may better sense prevail
in them in always acting very judiciously and never abusing or misusing any
perks.
