[Goanet] What Does China Really Want?

2019-04-06 Thread Roland Francis
It used to perplex me when I read that China has been masterminding a massive
silk belt road and network project. That it has been infusing down-and-out
African countries with cash. That is has been fortifying and occupying tiny
islands in the Pacific Ocean. That it has been building and running vital ports
in Pakistan, Iran and Sri Lanka.

What was the grand design I wondered. Was it to control essential resources for
the future like oil, metals and minerals, fish stock and fresh water?

Was it to encircle the United States and countries who are thorns in sides like
India, Australia, Japan and even Russia.

Would it be a stretch to even think that it would like to ultimately control
the financial and monetary systems that run the global economy?

It’s possibly all these things and a few others I don’t even understand.

But you got to hand it to them: the Chinese are hardworking, crafty and wily,
they work slowly and with infinite patience and they plan with tremendous
foresight. They are like a slow moving but large grinding stone, powdering
everything that blocks its inexorable path.

Here is an example:

Djibouti’s rising debts to expansionist China worry US, France -

[Goanet] Choice of Congress MP

2019-04-06 Thread Nelson Lopes

South Goa was represented by Congress MP for long It lost seat recently due
to internal bickering and personal ego . conflict of interest and dog in the
manger attitude Last election the present candidate refused to canvass due to
son in fray and denial of ticket for self. The selected candidate of Congress
to dreams of perpetuity
This year two aspiring candidates young educated without baggage were not
considered There was better possibility of succeeding by giving tough fight But
no wisdom and trust in old and aged is recipe

Forget of 33 percent reservation not a single Congress woman is in the
Assembly. For bias against gender,Does not mater if the President of Congress
Is young and dynamic but members have to be old As some one has commented
that present choice has passed expiry period His report card does not inspire
confidence as his earlier presence was not praise worthy on any known respect
Remember his UTurn acting as traitor had made cause with BJP ditching Faleiro
called Judas of Good Friday. Surprising that Reginaldo has extended public
support forgetting as it seems stab in the back
Are Congress MLA'S of south really enthusiastic about the choice and whether
they will go out of their way to support Congress nominees is anybody's guess.
Silently more likely to sabotage prospects or remain indifferent to. Cough up
their resources
The presence of AAP. Way ahead on campaign mode is likely to give tough time
and eat into votes of Congress The others in fray will suck Congress prospects
as votes of BJP will remain intact Congress as usual is a divided house with
wounded aspirants and their promoters. One Congress stalwart is on record
stating that party has gifted the seat in Goa to BJP on a platter This
judgement is not without reasons and reality
The voters in general are not too enthusiastic about the choice whom congress
had rejected last time around. There is deep discontent brewing internally
among MLA's many of whom are not in the best terms with the choice but prefer
to avoid controversy and project illusive unity
The prospects of seat in the south is forgone conclusion with none accepting
the bet of congress defeat The Congress and not supporters are responsible for
the outcome
There is only one concern that may be elevating the situation To keep BJP at
bay and vote out Congress is a better bet as others will only divide votes
benefiting BJP Voting for others , refraining from voting, option NOTA will
only benefit the BJP. The season of religious events will also alter the mood.
The enthusiasm in Congress camp is sadly missing

[Goanet] Addiction-Prevention

2019-04-06 Thread Gilbert Lawrence
Addiction is arousing ones emotional brain through nefarious activities.  Hence
at its core, addiction is a selfish behavior. An approach to deter such
behavior is satisfying ones own emotional brain by making some unrelated person
or pet happy.  Thus altruism is a powerful tool for emotional gratification.
Volunteering or donating one or more of one's 3 Ts - Time, Talent, Treasure
(money) to a good and unrelated cause can arouse ones own emotional brain.
Addiction of children to using electronic devices is a growing problem in the
modern world. There is good correlation of excessive use of digital media,
specially on-line activity, with teen depression. As parents who pioneered the
use of technology for entertainment, it is incumbent that parents and children
abide by sensible ground-rules.  Some of these include:
Removal of the electronic devices from the bed room at night.Avoiding using
these devices an hour before bed time. Use of electronic devices for
entertainment for only 2-3 hours a day. Getting regular, enough and undisturbed
sleep.

*Puitea, The talented Mizo footballer destined for bigger things*

*By Soumo Ghosh,AIFF Media Team*

*BHUBANESWAR:* Mizoram has become a hotbed of plucky young footballers over
the years. The state has already provided the country with top talents like
Jeje Lalpekhlua, Lalruatthara, Lallianzuala Chhangte, Jerry Lalrinzuala,
and many more.

>From the land of the hills, comes another young boy who has turned all
heads this season. Lalthathanga Khawlhring, better known as Puitea has had
an exceptional display in the Hero Indian Super League 2018-19 season.

“When I made the switch to NorthEast United FC, I had a personal goal –
winning at least three Emerging Player of the Match awards,” said the
21-year-old.

Puitea has managed to achieve that and a couple of more accolades – one
Winning Pass of the Match, and one Hero of the Match awards.

“I hadn’t really thought of anything more than the Emerging Player awards.
Anything else was just a bonus. But getting the Hero of the Match award was
a really big deal for me,” he said.

NorthEast United FC Head Coach Eelco Schattorie has shown a propensity to
trust youngsters this season, and Puitea is a prime example of his
philosophy that promising yet inexperienced talents can also win matches.

“He is a really good coach. I have learnt a lot about football tactics over
the course of the season from Eelco Sir,” said Puitea. “Never before have I
had to process so much data as a preparation for a match, and that has
really helped me improve my game. I can honestly say that this is the best
season I’ve had so far.”

*THE KID WHO ROSE FROM BETHLEHEM*

Puitea had always shown his aptitude for the ‘beautiful game,’ and got had
even played amateur football for Mizoram Police back in his school days.
>From there on, the scrawny young kid was given his first professional
contract at Bethlehem Vengthlang for the 2014 Mizoram Premier League season.

Coming from a humble family where his father earns his daily bread as a
driver, and his mother as an*anganwadi* worker, this contract was a rather
big deal for the teenager.

“Financially, it was huge for my family. My parents don’t earn much, and I
remember that after I got this contract, we all went out to buy clothes and
many different things for everyone,” he said.

“Even now, I am supporting them. I am really happy that football has
allowed me to take care of my family. I have two siblings as well, a
brother and a sister, who is studying in college now,” said Puitea.

However, the comforts of a professional contract did not deter the young
lad, who went on to win the ‘Midfielder of the Season Award’ at the age of
16 in the 2014 Mizoram Premier League, scoring nine goals from 14 matches.

“Coach Sanga was my first trainer at the professional level, and he helped
me improve a lot. He identified me as a talented footballer, and gave me
that breakthrough, which I am really thankful for,” said Puitea.

*THE HARD DAYS AND NIGHTS*

After Bethlehem, Puitea was given an opportunity to join the DSL
Shivajians-Liverpool Academy, his first move out of his home state.

While he learnt a lot under the then DSK Coach Dave Rogers, the teenager
had a difficult time away from his loved ones.

“Everything was new to me, and I personally took some time to adjust to
things. the first couple of months, I used to call my mother every night
and cry over the phone,” he said. “But she told me to pray, believe and try
for the best, and that is exactly what I did.”

During his time at DSK, Puitea found a friend in current Chennaiyin FC
centre-back Zotea Ralte, who helped him out. Once the youngster found his
footing, it did not take him long to graduate

[Goanet] blatant violation

2019-04-06 Thread anil naik
The enclosed photo will show you a carwash being operated openly and
blatantly just outside the Panjim ferry terminal. Has CCP given them a
commercial licence? Has the water department given permission to the use
of unlimited and unmonitored water usage? The reason I am writing this is
the sheer audacity of the perpetrators to carry out this illegal activity
so brazenly and openly. If this is not nipped in the bud, I am sure within
a few months you will find a temporary shed coming up to be followed by a
more permanent structure and then the corporation will wake up and have to
fight a litigious battle at the cost of taxpayers' money.
I look forward to some very stern action taken immediately and this
open-air carwash shutdown immediately. Even sterner action should be
taken against the official who has turned a blind eye to this open and
blatant violation.
Thank you

I can sympathize with you and the ability of some people to manipulate the
situation. Frankly once you allow high rise buildings in residential areas
it makes no difference whether it is an 8 or a 29 story building. .They

We can say it started with the Tower of Babel, but it is the Greed that is
responsible for the high Rise. But for those who equate High Rise
Building with Modernity and DEVELOPMENT.In Dar es Salaam, Tanzania

*I am writing to thank you for enriching my perspectives and dimension of
my late friend Tony….He did tell me he had a brother. When he learnt that
I was a also a student in St Josephs Convent School DSM ,but a decade
later, he was shocked and I sensed that those were dark and gloomy days for
him. ..that was when his mother died, so we discussed other matters about
what I was doing currently, He was even more shocked, that since about
2008, I discussed matters of local knowledge, disasters and security with
high level bureaucrats and official in Tanzania and elsewhere / *

*Over the years Tony did not mention, his father name or for that matter
about his fathers cousin. So when you wrote *

Quote Francisco Almeida, originally of Patnimorod, Chinchinim. Tony's
father Francisco was a pioneering business entrepreneur who in partnership
with his maternal cousin Nazareto Menezes ( also from Chinchinim of Adv.
Laurente Menezes family ) opened a chain of general stores shops called
Almeida and Menezes in Dar es Salaam, Tanga, Morogoro and Bagamoyo during
the German occupation of Tanganyika ( Deutsch-Ostafrika) before the First
World War..End Quote

My father Camillo Pantaleao from Quepem joined the British Administration
and with a Major Haig established the Headquarters at the fort in
Mahenge…nearby was a Swiss Capuchins Mission, My father was allocated the

Over the six decades I spent on and off Bagamoyo, I came across four Goans
families …Aslemo Costa, .Lobo in the Customs, a friend whose father owned
a bar, and a fourth family whose name I have forgotten

*So how did I escape the Menezes ……I have a lot of interesting
questions…..and probably some answers*

*I am hoping to be in Quepem by the 15 of April to get my eyes and knees
fixed*

*So did you yourself spend time in Dar es Salaam ?*
