Revised Goan Chefs on British Television - Bake off Finals 2020

To create a banquet fit for a King and Queen and feed 80 people with stopclock
pressure.

Are you a pastry chef, chocolatier or patisserie chef by trade, and want to
test your skills against the very best in the business? Apply now to Channel 4
British Television Bake Off the Professionals or forever hold your peace.
Clanny Rodrigues from Ponda and Ryan Pinheiro from Louitalim in Goa State in
India did just that representing the Ivy, a very high end five star Gold award
restaurant, with many celebrities as patrons in London, England. The
restaurant serves British and International dishes.

After nine gruelling episodes, Clanny and Ryan, on Tuesday 28 July 2020, centre
staged Cuisine from Goa, a little dot on the map to a worldwide audience, as
they were tasked with creating a banquet fit for a King and Queen and enough
for 80 people. The pressure was on them, with their theme “ a day in the
countryside”. Theit final presentation was a Goan Boater style beach hat with
intricate Raffia style design woven in chocolate complete with a hatpin made
up of what looked like a display of lily and lialac. The sweet was Pyramid
shaped bite size portions of Bebinca garnished with Cashew and Cinnamon Barfi
sitting on Jelabi. The centrepiece was a peacock, the National Bird of India.

We all 2.75 million viewers on multiple screen viewing platforms such as
television computers and smartphones in UK and around the world missed a
heartbeat along with Covid 19 survivor Matilda Sequeira when disaster struck in
the final minutes capturing the moment the centre piece sugar coated wing of
the peacock fell off. Said it gave her memories of her younger days.

Another Viewer Sharon Pinto commented” it was interesting none were British in
the final, but the contestants had to wow the judges to get to where they were,
she also commented on how she missed her mums very nice bebinca.

Viewers also noticed Ryan’s perfect pyramid shaped bebinca it was good to hear
he was using his mums recipe. Must have made her and indeed whole of Goa and
Niz Goykars around the world very proud to see this product in the Finals.

May I take this opportunity to thank Café Heraldo and Lens man Lui Godinho now
based in London for the tribute and close up picture of the cake.

2020-08-01 Thread Devak Argham
B.I.B.L.E. - Behold I Bring Life Eternal

Matthew 14:17-21

17 But they said to him, “Five loaves and two fish are all we have here.”

18 Then he said, “Bring them here to me,”

19 and he ordered the crowds to sit down on the grass. Taking the five
loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, he said the blessing,
broke the loaves, and gave them to the disciples, who in turn gave them to
the crowds.

20 They all ate and were satisfied, and they picked up the fragments left
over—twelve wicker baskets full.

21 Those who ate were about five thousand men, not counting women and
children.

[Goanet-News] Spanish Inquisition... the English and Catholics... Europe's wars of religion... etc

2020-08-01 Thread Frederick Noronha
The Spanish Inquisition: Spain's "Black Legend"

Spain became a byword for cruelty during the 16th and 17th
centuries. Professor Ryrie will explore this dark history
and highlight some forgotten areas.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7hqdvyXHhwI

Spain became a byword for cruelty in much of Europe
in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, whether
it was the brutality of American colonisation, the
tyranny of the Spanish Inquisition or the horrors
of the Eighty Years' War in the Netherlands. This
lecture will survey this 'black legend' and ask
what made it so enduring -- and why some parts of
the story, such as the Inquisition's genocidal
campaign against Spanish Jews, received so much
  less attention than others.

How the English learned to hate Catholics

Medieval England was proudly Catholic, but after the
Reformation, anti-catholic prejudice came to be a cornerstone
of English and then British identity.

Medieval England was proudly Catholic and ostentatiously
loyal to Rome. But from the late sixteenth century until
recent times -- and even now -- anti-Catholic prejudice has
been a cornerstone of English and British identity. This
lecture will look at how this prejudice grew out of the
persecution of Protestants in the 1550s, at the idealistic
historian who crystallised it, and at the political crises,
real and invented, which turned his text into a paranoiacs'
charter.

How to be an Atheist in Medieval Europe

Alec Ryrie takes a tour of medieval unbelief, showing why
some believed that God was being used to swindle and
manipulate them.

A lecture by Professor Alec Ryrie, Gresham Professor of
Divinity 27 September 2018

https://www.gresham.ac.uk/lectures-an...

There was no intellectually sophisticated or articulate
'atheism' in the Middle Ages, but there was plenty of raw
scepticism and incredulity. Church courts regularly heard
blasphemy cases which went as far as outright denial of God.

This lecture will take a tour of medieval unbelief, showing
how and why some medieval people defied the powerful
orthodoxies of their day: fired not by intellectual or
philosophical doubts but by suspicion that 'God' was being
used to swindle and manipulate them.

[Goanet] POWER CORRUPTS AND ABSOLUTE POWER CORRUPT ABSOLUTELY

2020-08-01 Thread Aires Rodrigues
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant had summoned a public interaction of the
Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Limited (IPSCDL) with the citizens of
Panaji on 28th May last year at the Menezes Braganza Hall in Panaji but at
the last minute abruptly cancelled it while publicly assuring us all that
it would be very soon re-scheduled.

It is now over 14 long months and that long overdue meeting has still not
been held. It is imperative that the Chief Minister should at the earliest
convene this crucial meeting by maintaining social distancing or even
through video-conferencing. The Citizens of Panaji are entitled to know
the true facts and figures of this multi-crore Panaji Smart City mega scam
and loot that has come to the fore.

Ironically Panaji MLA Babush Monserrate who had earlier demanded this
public interaction with the Smart City officials has conveniently gone
silent after embracing the BJP. In June last year Babush Monserrate had
publicly alleged that the Smart City projects were a scam and had demanded
that the CEO be sacked. Now the Panaji MLA is mute as a mouse.

Dear officials of Govt. of Goa,

In the current troubled circumstances, while every government in the world
is exercising restraint on expenditure, it is disheartening to see crores
of rupees being earmarked for projects such as facelift of the Assembly,
construction of Memorials, Raj Bhavan, convention centers, Panchayat ghars
etc.

These surely can’t be the priorities in these difficult times.
Entrepreneurs and businesses in the state are reeling under extreme
pressures to survive through the pandemic induced slags. Lack of basic
infrastructure like connectivity and power is making matters worse for
technology dependent businesses. Goa continues to rank behind in Ease of
Doing Business for lack of a single-window system. Academic systems in the
state are on the verge of crumbling down as the state, despite being one of
the early starters in setting up IT and connectivity infrastructures and
spending crores on doing it, has failed miserably to provide a viable
online alternative to physical teaching and learning systems. Industries
are closing down or retrenching staff. Tourism sector and all other allied
industries have taken a big hit. Roads and transport systems in the state
are in very bad shape. Common man is struggling to survive the Pandemic
and is desperately looking for alternatives. On this backdrop, the least
that can be expected from the government is judicious spending of the
exchequer's money by setting the priorities right.

Certainly the government is aware of these issues that have been aptly
highlighted in the media. Hard earned money of citizens, paid as taxes
cannot be washed away for luxuries, extravaganza, miscellaneous and
non-priority infrastructure.

We sincerely urge the government to instead invest the money in the future
of Goa by improving connectivity in the state and setting up the long
overdue single-window system for investment so that we see jobs being
created and people earning a respectable living.

Regards,

[Goanet] Low caste woman's corpse removed from the pyre

2020-08-01 Thread BT Yahoo Mail
The corpse of a Dalit woman was removed from the pyre under upper-caste
social pressure, and, despite police intervention, taken away for
cremation elsewhere.

That's Hindu priorities for you.
At Kakarpura village, twenty miles from Agra, it was admitted that it
was “illegal” for a “lower caste” person to be denied cremation by the
upper castes.
The “caste system was too deep rooted,” and that eventually after six
hours of altercation, a “balance” was found - in favour of the dominant
groups.

[Goanet] AIFF Report_Unless you develop your sixth sense you won’t be a successful striker: Bhaichung Bhutia

2020-08-01 Thread AIFF Media
Dear colleagues,

Please find below a report.

*Unless you develop your sixth sense you won’t be a successful striker:
Bhaichung Bhutia*

Former Indian National Team striker Bhaichung Bhutia feels “all strikers
need to develop their sixth sense if they are to score regularly.”

In a chat with AIFF TV, Bhaichung, the first Indian footballer to have
played 100 International matches expressed: “It’s all about that sixth
sense. You need to smell it as to where it would be coming. The best
strikers in the world all have that sense. You need to read situations.
Unless you don't develop your sixth sense, you won't be a successful
striker.”

[Goanet] LET EXPERTS AND NOT GREEDY POLITICIANS CHART THE COURSE OF BATTLING COVID-19

2020-08-01 Thread Aires Rodrigues
Since the current global pandemic erupted, the Goa Government has over the
last crucial months repeatedly goofed up miserably in its plans and
strategies while dealing with the virus.

The latest move to shift the Antenatal, Postnatal and Pediatric units of
the Margao based COVID hospital to a very distant Mandur based Rural Health
and Training Centre defies all logic.

It is high time this dozing government wakes from its slumber and takes
appropriate and medically wise decisions keeping in mind the ground
realities and the exigencies of these troubled times.

Even at this late stage to save the life of many, proper planning and
urgent implementation of measures based on scientific and medical facts and
advice from experts must be the priority and not knee jerk reactions to
fight a destructive virus. These extraordinary times need timely and proper
measures and this is why experts and not inept politicians should be
entrusted the arduous task of navigating us through this crisis.
