[Goanet] India - Brink Of Substance Abuse
Given India’s location in proximity to drug source countries like Afghanistan, Nepal and Pakistan and the country’s chronic high youth unemployment, it’s not a surprise that this phenomenon is taking place there. Rather that it has happened so much later than it could. On balance though, it is not only an India problem. [Goanet] THE NEW ZUARI BRIDGE IS READY BUT AWAITS SANTA CLAUS
A government that is people centric and public oriented should do everything possible to alleviate any hardship faced by its citizens. Currently it is a nightmare for people traveling between North and South Goa due to the serpentine queues of vehicles around Cortalim and Agacaim. Ironically the first phase of the new Zuari Bridge despite being ready has not been thrown open for commuters as Union Minister for Road Transport Nitin Gadkari can come down only on 29th December to inaugurate it. Instead of forthwith alleviating the plight of the commuters the government has chosen to wait for the Chief Guest to arrive. An insane decision defying all logic. If for whatever reasons the government wants it inaugurated by Nitin Gadkari, with modern technology at hand couldn’t that ritual have been done by virtual mode? The Atal Setu across the River Mandovi was hurriedly inaugurated on 27th January 2019 and we were promised it would be a wonder that would last over a century. But within a year the defects in that bridge started showing up and the potholes are now galore. In any other country the contractor, engineers and government officials responsible for such a failed project would have by now been cooling their heels in jail. After the inaugural of Atal Setu it was thrown open for the public only on 5 th February. The intervening week was to enable the BJP’s Karyakartas to rejoice the evenings on the bridge and beer cans were floating all over. Hope that is not allowed on the Zuari Bridge. Nitin Gadkari had inaugurated Atal Setu and we can now only pray that history does not repeat with those structural defects at this Zuari Bridge which has cost the taxpayer a whopping over 2530 crores. [Goanet] TACO BELL
TACO BELL STEPHEN DIAS DONA PAULA 27th December 2022 942244310 A newly opened restaurant namely TACO BELL which is in the midway from Miramar to Hotel Mandovi is not having adequate parking facilities. I saw people parking in opposite road footpath and entering this restaurant TACO Bell for eating the snacks. Also there is another 5 star restaurant some few metres away called Mac Donald also having no parking facilities. I wonder who gives them approvals to run these restaurants without parking facilities. I have written very often about Mac Donald for traffic congestion but the authorities have ignored even the press statement. Another serious issue which I noticed is at the Goa Saras 2022 - 23 exhibition and sale of rural SNG products at Campal grounds which started on 20th December for 10 days duration organised by District Rural Development agency, Government of GOA that the front stalls are issued to other states clients and Goans were given rear stalls. They all told me that their business is totally low and few of them have lost to earn anything even their cost of travelling from North Goa could not be achieved and their products are not been sold after working day and night. I feel this is a bad planning to favor Non Goans businesses. The parking of vehicles were seen on adjacent footpath when enough place was available on ground. This job should have been entrusted to Smart City organizers as they claim they are keeping this city of Panjim at the top position. The whole Miramar from Samadhi till Hotel Mandovi and further, the area is in Mess with Casinos in River Mandovi, jetties suffocated with heavy constructions. I see no proper coordination within the electricity department, Forest, Kala Academy, navigation department, agriculture, PWD, CCP and Panchayat. [Goanet] Libia Lobo Sardesai?s Voice of Freedom (O Heraldo, 24/12/2022)
I Wonder if Libia Lobo has opened eyes to the situation of Goa today. It is time that she stops peddling this nonsense of 1961 which is happening for the past 6 decades. Maybe she is not aware that Goan youth are leaving the shores with Portuguese citizenship. BC ?The radio was not just one of those things that happened as a matter of course,? said Lobo, ?in fact it was the only peaceful alternative that was left to the Goans.? She recalled how the colonial military brutally attacked unarmed satyagrahis in 1954, so ?to put sense into the Portuguese regime, the government of India declared the borders with Goa closed and also imposed an economic blockade, which meant preventing all free movement, traffic and trade between the two territories. All existing sea, road and rail links were snapped. Indian dock workers boycotted all ships touching Goa. From then on, therefore, any communication could only be clandestine and with great risk.? T*
[Goanet] Charley unfit to be King
Dear Michael Walker (Novara Media), Hearty congrats on your history-making account on the state of Britain's monarchy and in particular the antics of King Charles III. The lucid account should be a must-reading for all Brit citizens, who should be guarded against the trivia & titillations of the 'mainstream' (billionaire) media. School children should be familiarised with what you have written. The content can be found on the site: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qElmEr8RrLg Eddie D'Sa

[Goanet] HERO I-LEAGUE FEATURE: Sankarlal Chakraborty relying on youth to salvage Sudeva Delhi's campaign
*Sankarlal Chakraborty relying on youth to salvage Sudeva Delhi's campaign* *Akhil RawatAIFF Media Team* *NEW DELHI:* With no points in the first seven matches and the threat of relegation increasing with every passing week, Sudeva Delhi FC desperately required a quick turnaround to salvage their Hero I-League season. In mid-December, Japanese head coach Atsushi Nakamura was let go and in came Sankarlal Chakraborty, as the club placed its faith in a renowned Indian name. The former Mohun Bagan head coach had an instant impact as Sudeva Delhi opened their account for the season with a 1-1 draw against Mohammedan Sporting in their last match before the winter break. Although conceding an injury-time equaliser denied the capital side all three points, Chakraborty was reasonably pleased with his team's performance, where they netted just their fourth goal of the campaign. Interestingly, this is the third time Chakraborty has taken over a club mid-season. After learning his trade as Sanjoy Sen's assistant coach at Mohun Bagan for three seasons from 2014-15 to 2016-17 (winning the Hero I-League title in the first season), he was promoted to head coach in the middle of the 2017-18 campaign and led the Mariners to a third-place finish. Later that year, he won his first piece of silverware – the Calcutta Football League – as Mohun Bagan emerged unbeaten champion. Chakraborty's last Hero I-League assignment came in 2020-21 with Mohammedan Sporting. He actually began the season as the club's technical director before being named head coach for the last seven matches, where he helped the Black and White Brigade qualify for the championship stage. "After that, I took a break from coaching to fully concentrate on my Pro-Diploma. Just when I completed the course, Sudeva Delhi co-owner Anuj Gupta, who is also a close friend of mine, approached me for the head coach position at the club," said Chakraborty. "I took my time, watched some videos and learned about the players. I was impressed with how youngsters formed the majority of the squad. Coaching a team filled with young Indians was a challenge that attracted me, and it made me return to the Hero I-League dugout with Sudeva Delhi," he added. The winter break has come at the right time for Sudeva Delhi, giving Chakraborty a sort of mini pre-season to plan his strategy for the new year. "I've been here for only over a week now, and I'm still getting to know the players. I'm also aware that reinforcements to the squad are an urgent requirement. We are in talks with a few players and are awaiting their arrival at the club. We hope they can join us as soon as possible, so we can come back strong after the break." In their short history, Sudeva Delhi FC have been known to promote young Indian talent, as evidenced by their all-Indian squads in the previous two Hero I-League seasons. Replicating that, Chakraborty named an entirely domestic line-up in his first match in charge with an average age of just 22 years, the lowest in the league this season. "As an Indian, I'm strongly in favour of giving youth chances in big games, which will ultimately benefit Indian Football. We have plenty of youngsters in the team along with a few senior and mature players. The right mix of youth and experience is always helpful," he stated. Right now, Sudeva Delhi are at the foot of the table, nine points away from safety, with just 14 matches left to play. And while ensuring Hero I-League football for next season is a big ask, it is not the only ask, according to Chakraborty. "Of course, avoiding relegation is our prime objective for the remainder of the season. But we also cannot overlook the development of young players, which is central to the philosophy of Sudeva Delhi," he affirmed. -- Soumo Ghosh, Assistant Manager, Media, All India Football Federation, Mobile: +91-9051857227 Alternate Mail: soumo.gh...@the-aiff.com

[Goanet] AIFF REPORT: The Hero of Santosh Trophy, who broke boundaries
The Hero of Santosh Trophy who broke boundaries NEW DELHI: There is hardly a top player in the country who hasn’t gone through the grind of the Hero Santosh Trophy at some stage of his career in the last eight decades. Starting from Talimeren Ao, the first captain of Independent India to present day icon Sunil Chhetri, all had made their presence felt in the National Football Championship at an early age before moving onto the next phase of footballing life. The influence and impact of Hero Santosh Trophy, however, hasn’t remained restricted to India – it has travelled beyond its boundaries from its very inception. So much so, when the newly-born nation Pakistan played their first official international tie – a friendly match against Iran – the team was led by the redoubtable Osman Jan, the celebrated custodian, who was actually known for his fabulous exploits in the Santosh Trophy. Few are aware that Osman, who once guarded the citadel of Kolkata’s great Mohammedan Sporting in the 1930s, was perhaps the first footballer to win the Santosh Trophy for two different states. While his triumph as part of the mighty Bengal team in the inaugural edition in 1941 didn’t come as a surprise to any, it made people to sit up and take notice the second time when Osman captained hosts Delhi to win the 1944 Santosh Trophy beating all-conquering Bengal in the final. If the old timers are to be believed, it was a fascinating battle in 1944 that saw underdogs Delhi win the prestigious National Football Championship for the only time in history. Osman, by then, had returned to his hometown Delhi after successful stints with Mohammedan Sporting and Aryans in Kolkata. Having joined the Crescent Football Club in Old Delhi, he was said to be instrumental in raising the Delhi state team that went on to beat stat-studded Bengal 2-0 in the final. He didn’t allow any interference in selection of the team and picked the best possible side, which included two British citizens from the Royal Indian Air Force, then stationed in Delhi. The move proved correct as one of them, English, scored one of the two goals for Delhi in the final (Bhabani Banerjee was the other marksman). The Delhi squad in 1944 was a true advertisement of unity in diversity – the hallmark of Hero Santosh Trophy right from the beginning. In the later years, two of the team members returned to England, some went over to Pakistan and some left Delhi to settle elsewhere. Osman went over to Pakistan and in October 1950, when the Pakistan National Team made their first ever tour of Iran and Iraq, he was made the captain. After his death, a tournament in his memory was started in Karachi. *Read: * https://www.the-aiff.com/article/the-hero-of-santosh-trophy-who-broke-boundaries -- Soumo Ghosh, Assistant Manager, Media, All India Football Federation, Mobile: +91-9051857227 Alternate Mail: soumo.gh...@the-aiff.com

Britain's King Charles III cuts a lonely, pathetic figure. Why doesn't he resign in good grace, so that the state money wasted for his upkeep is better utilised for the less disadvantaged people? Eddie
