Dear Mervyn,
These Grenada Television series on End of Empire have been around a long time
and are worth watching because they represent all points of view: the rulers
and the ruled.

While you can relate to the Kenya situation, I have immensely enjoyed all the
other episodes as well - their smooth or ignonimous
exits from places like Iran (Abadan), Yemen, Iraq, Cyprus, the Trucial States,
Egypt, Palestine, Rhodesia, the Gold Coast and of course the India-Pakistan
tragedy.

If a knowledgeable person can sit with and use these Television series with
some interested, eager young minds who will question this incident or that
within it, a better learning experience than any classroom time can be imparted.

Regards and good health.
Roland.

[Goanet] End of Empire

2021-03-28 Thread Mervyn Maciel
Thanks Roland for posting that link which I hadn't seen
before - however, it brought back many memories of
the difficult period we lived through.
Some of my former Kenya colonial bosses appear in
the film as also Fitz D'Souza, Kapila and Sir Michael
Blundell who was at one time my Minister in the Ministry
of Agriculture.
Seeing Kenyatta and the 'Kapenguria 6' took me back to the
daily scenes I witnessed as they were brought out from their
cells to Court in Kapenguria, passing through my government
quarter each morning! Memories.

As a triology to Albert Peres’ link to the life and times of Karen Dixen in
Kenya and Tony’s De Sa’s trip to and pics of the Karen Estate, here is a
Granada Television series End of Empire about the British end and exit from
Kenya.
