The fruit didn't fall far from the tree. Thalmann's father was Gerald Pereira, a famous lawyer and trade unionist in Bombay. They lived half a block away in Byculla. Gerald's terrace apartment was always filled with people requesting his help. They were greeted at the entrance by a large portrait of Vladimir Lenin. Gerald was a kind man though a militant lawyer and head of several large unions. In the very untimely death of our young Advocate Thalman Pradeep Pereira, Goa has lost a very principled crusader and the legal fraternity a very dear ever so sincere colleague. The very outspoken Thalman was always a friend of the poor and oppressed. Thalman passed away this morning after battling a sudden and severe lung infection over the last five days. His funeral will be held at Vasco tomorrow evening. May Thalman’s soul rest in eternal peace and may the Almighty give his bereaved family the comfort and courage to endure this sudden loss.
