[GRASS-user] QGIS: Segmentation fault

2009-09-21 Thread Benedikt Ziegler

Hello,

a few days ago, I wrote a message to the german GRASS List. I have
trouble by startung QGIS using Linux 9.04. I've installed QGIS first
some month ago, and the programm worked without any problems. But now,
when I start there is the Startup Windows but then it shut down. The
Terminal gives the error message: Segemtation fault.

Because of this error I updated the former Version 1.0.xx to the
unstable 1.3.0 from this Launchpad sources:

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/qgis/unstable/ubuntu jaunty main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/qgis/unstable/ubuntu jaunty main

But the error message is still the same as before. So I think it's not
really a problem of the installed version. Do somebody know this and can
give some advice to solve it?

Benedikt

[GRASS-user] wxpython 3D view

2009-09-21 Thread Jarosław Jasiewicz

Hi
I have one question about 3D view in wxpython
Tcltk version had (still has) one good advantage: it respect current
region settings - both res and boundaries. It will give us good
oportunity to review and watch even very huge map with full resolution
piece by piece (set computational resolution from current view - nviz).
In wxpython 3D do not respect current regions and will always use the
whole map.

Or maybe I do something wrong?

Re: [GRASS-user] QGIS: Segmentation fault

2009-09-21 Thread Benedikt Ziegler
Hello András,

it's no reason for apologize. Yes, that's exactly the same. Unfortunately I
have no idea how to solve or what's the reason for it. So let's hope someone
can help us. ;) I can install QGIS for Windows but I won't if I can avoid it.

Some greetings
Benedikt

the Qgis is stopping with the same segmentation error immediatelly after

Yes, that was the problem I was having - wrong or missing type

I would ask if it acts any differently in latest grass 6.5 or 7 svn builds?
(6.5 change may be reverted as it may break
 backwards compatibility / expected behaviour)

Which change are you referring to? I'm using the latest 6.5.svn, and all
seems to run smoothly.

As GRASS 7 will be TCL/Tk legacy free, someday somebody will implement
most usefull NVIZ features into wxNVIZ (or whatever it's called).
Still IMHO right now nobody is working on new features for NVIZ. I
will return to attribute based vector styling as soon as I will have
free time for coding, still it will not hit wxNVIZ for some time, as
I'm still looking into old tcl/tk one direction.

make that in new cases make things better, but subtly break backwards
compatibility / expected behaviour in existing scripts.
ie an old script for 6.x should produce the same output as a new script at the
cost of the default action not being as nice.
I don't really know if this is just hypothetical or if it could really screw
somebody up. (ie if it matters or not)

I've installed the newest QGIS packages allready. But I

try (1.0*band4-band3)/(band5+band3) to introduce a floating

As I looked into it a little bit more. It was more complicated than I
had previously realized, so my solution was to write a series of
scripts to convert Digital Number to radiance - TOP of Atmosphere
reflectance - NDVI. If anyone is interested in the scripts please
don't hessitate to ask for them.

right 3D viewer in wxGUI (or wxNviz if you like) supports ~30% of
TCL/TK Nviz capability. Initial prototype has been designed within
Google Summer of Code 2008 project [1] by me. Currently I have no time
to continue with that development (probably the next year will be
possible for me). So any volunteer is welcomed, also GSoC project the
next year would be cool.
