Bug description:
I enabled the bind9-resolvconf service and restarted my system,
because I want to use the named running on localhost as my nameserver.

Even after the restart, however, the nameservers in /etc/resolv.conf
(actually /var/run/resolvconf/resolv.conf) were still the ones
provided by DHCP. This, despite the fact that the logs claim that
  bind9-resolvconf ran successfully during boot.

I tried manually running "sudo systemctl start bind9-resolv.conf", and
again, the logs claim it ran, but /etc/resolv.conf was unmodified.

  Finally, I manually ran "sudo /bin/sh -c 'echo nameserver 127.0.0.1 |
  /sbin/resolvconf -a lo.named'", i.e., the command listed in
  /lib/systemd/system/bind9-resolv.conf.service, and _that_ successfully
  updated /etc/resolv.conf.

After doing that, interestingly, "sudo systemctl stop
  bind9-resolv.conf" _also_ doesn't change /etc/resolv.conf, i.e., it
still retains the 127.0.0.1 line which I added by running the
  resolvconf command manually.

Bug description:
  [Impact]
Nova does not recognize PPC64LE as an architecture that supports
hugepaged-backed VMs.

  [Test Case]
  Steps to reproduce:
On an openstack environment running on PPC64LE:
  1. Configure compute nodes to use hugepages, e.g.:
 echo 1024 | sudo tee
/sys/kernel/mm/hugepages/hugepages-65536kB/nr_hugepages
  2. Set mem_page_size="65536" for a flavor
  3. Launch a VM using the above flavor.

  Expected result:
VM should be launched with hugepages and the libvirt xml should have

  Actual result:
  VM is launched without hugepages.

There are no error logs in nova-scheduler.

  [Regression Risk]
Risk is minimized by the fact that this change is just enabling the same code
for ppc64el that is already enabled for Ubuntu/x86.

New stable point releases for neutron and nova:

  [Test Case]
For all stable point releases, we perform regression testing by juju
deploying two openstack clouds, one against -proposed and one against -updates,
and we then run tempest integration smoke tests[1] to verify those deployed
clouds, and evaluate any differences in results.

  [Regression Potential]
Stable point releases from upstream are considered low regression potential.

Bug description:

running on a nova-lxd openstack cloud.

  [Test Case]
  Deploy OpenStack Nova LXD cloud
  nova boot instance
  nova delete instance - fails

  [Regression Potential]
Minimal; later versions of nova-lxd take a different approach to profile
management, but the fix simply ensures that the profile is deleted after the
container, rather than the other way around.

  [Original Bug Report]
After deploying Openstack and spinning up lxd instances we are unable to
delete those instances

The following error appears in Horizon and in the nova-compute logs

Exception during message handling: Failed to communicate with LXD API
instance-005f: Error 400 - Profile is currently in use

Its possible to delete the lxc container, then delete the profile.
  Then delete from Horizon.

  [Impact]

New stable point releases for neutron and nova:

  neutron 8.3.0
  neutron-lbaas 8.3.0
  nova 13.1.2

  [Test Case]
For all stable point releases, we perform regression testing by juju
deploying two openstack clouds, one against -proposed and one against -updates,
and we then run tempest integration smoke tests[1] to verify those deployed
clouds, and evaluate any differences in results.

  [1] https://github.com/openstack/tempest/blob/master/README.rst

  [Regression Potential]
Stable point releases from upstream are considered low regression potential.

  == Comment: #0 - Akshay Adiga - 2016-09-22 23:55:06 ==
  ---Problem Description---
boot arguments (passed as CONFIG_CMDLINE) are not being
picked up by kernel while using gcc-ppc64-linux-gnu v5.4.0 and v6.1.1.
   (gcc v5.3.1 works fine)

  ---Steps to Reproduce---
enable following config options in .config
  CONFIG_CMDLINE_BOOL=y
  CONFIG_CMDLINE=""
  CONFIG_CMDLINE_FORCE=y

build kernel image and kexec without additional boot args.

The system does not boot as it does not get the boot args.

I have debugged to issue to gcc compiler optimization :
  https://lists.ozlabs.org/pipermail/linuxppc-dev/2016-September/149026.html

The problem has been reported and fixed in upstream gcc
 https://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=71709

Need to backport this fix for gcc-ppc64-linux-gnu v5.4.0 onwards.

This began when I upgraded to 16.10, it always happens when using Gimp
under Gnome-flashback. Occasionally it happens with other apps too.

The quickest way to reproduce is to open up an image in Gimp, select
all, copy and then exit. That's when Metacity crashes.

The bad part is, if I don't run 'metacity --replace' before launching
gimp, it causes the entire session to quit and go back to the login
screen. (I know why it does that, but there should be some better
error handling there so people don't lose their work or any other in
progress things, at least with just metactity crashed there's a way of
restarting metacity and keeping the current session, as well as the
ability to save work in other applications before restarting)

Ethernet devices have higher metric than wlan or wwan ones

Status in snappy-hwe-snaps:
  New
Status in nplan package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in nplan source package in Xenial:
  In Progress

Bug description:
In Ubuntu Core, in all supported devices ethernet devices have higher
metric than wlan or wwan devices, so packets get routed to the latter
always. The metric is 1024, while for instance network-manager assigns
  these numbers:

  ethernet -> 100
  wlan -> 600
  wwan -> 700

This happens because ethernet devices are managed by default by
networkd in ubuntu-core, while wlan and wwan are managed by network-
manager if installed. It would make sense to either assign a metric of
100 in networkd configuration file or change network-manager snap so
it handles ethernet in all cases when installed.

  SRU TEST CASE:
   * Set up an ethernet and wifi connection using netplan, and check metrics in
"ip route". With the current version they have "1024", with the proposed update
the ethernet one will have 100, the wifi one 600.

REGRESSION POTENTIAL: It could in principle happen that someone relies
on the current high metric and this interferes with some custom
routing. However, netplan has only been used in snappy on xenial since
recently, and there is no other official way to configure routing on
snappy than netplan. So in practice this should be very low.

[Group.of.nepali.translators] [Bug 1640547] Re: Disk test fails on IBM Power S822LC (8335-GTB)

2016-11-09 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Did this issue start happening after an update/upgrade? Was there a
prior kernel version where you were not having this particular problem?

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v4.9 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as
"Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

Bug description:
The driver sha1-powerpc fails all tests in the crypto API test
manager. The driver was not written with little endian support.

The simplest steps to check the problem is to recompile the kernel
with the crypto API test manager enabled (since it's disabled by
default on Xenial) and then load the sha1-powerpc driver.

OOPS on beaglebone on boot of 4.4.0-36-generic under snappy ubuntu
  core xenial

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:

Status in linux source package in Xenial:

Bug description:
  SRU:

Problem: during installation, before configuring the network
interfaces, netconf puts down all the network links and cpsw gets
suspended - later on the PM code kicks and tries to access the
  suspended hardware generating an oops

Fix: apply the patches present in:

  git://git.launchpad.net/~p-pisati/ubuntu/+source/linux
  x-master_lp1625177

  and recompile.

How to reproduce: try to install an ubuntu-core image using the above
  patched kernel

trying to assemble a new series 16 ubuntu core image for the
beaglebone black i am constantly running into an OOPS on first boot.
seemingly related to the NIC driver since the NIC does not work after
  the OOPS.

Ubuntu-4.4.0-40.60 included my backport of :

b00a726a9fd ("NVMe: Don't unmap controller registers on reset") #upstream
commit
[ 30d6592fce71 on the Ubuntu -proposed branch]

But missed the fix up that came later:

81e9a969c441 ("nvme: Call pci_disable_device on the error path.") #
  4.4.y tree

This means that we may hit an Oops if we need to go into the error
  path of the nvme probe.

Please cherry-pick this fix to your kernel.

Status in linux source package in Yakkety:

Bug description:
  [Impact]
Link establishment is delayed during initialization, possibly resulting in
remote fault conditions that may cause the interface to fail to come up.

  [Test Case]
Put the system in a reboot loop and watch for a remote fault condition, or a
failure to bring up the link that can only be resolved by reloading the module.

  [Regression Risk]
Patch is to a specific driver that is only used on Cavium ThunderX systems.
The patch is upstream, so will have upstream support for regressions.

  From: Paul Mackerras
  Date: Tue, 11 Oct 2016 22:18:58 +1100
Subject: [PATCH] powerpc/64: Fix incorrect return value from__copy_tofrom_user

Debugging a data corruption issue with virtio-net/vhost-net led to
the observation that __copy_tofrom_user was occasionally returning
a value 16 larger than it should. Since the return value from
__copy_tofrom_user is the number of bytes not copied, this means
that __copy_tofrom_user can occasionally return a value larger
than the number of bytes it was asked to copy. In turn this can
cause higher-level copy functions such as copy_page_to_iter_iovec
to corrupt memory by copying data into the wrong memory locations.

It turns out that the failing case involves a fault on the store
at label 79, and at that point the first unmodified byte of the
destination is at R3 + 16. Consequently the exception handler
for that store needs to add 16 to R3 before using it to work out
how many bytes were not copied, but in this one case it was not
adding the offset to R3. To fix it, this moves the label 179 to
the point where we add 16 to R3. I have checked manually all the
exception handlers for the loads and stores in this code and the
rest of them are correct (it would be excellent to have an
automated test of all the exception cases).

This is a tracking bug for what might be kernel bugs or kernel
  configuration changes.

As described [1], memory used by simply mounting a squashfs file (even
an empty one) is ranging from almost nothing (on certain
  distributions) to 131MB on Ubuntu 16.04 and 16.10 on a single-core
  machine or VM.

The amount is excessive and should be investigated by the kernel team.
We may need to change the kernel or at least the configuration we ship
in our packages and kernel snaps.

  == Comment: #5 - Guilherme Guaglianoni Piccoli  - 2016-06-21 16:07:02 ==
Not too much commits between v0.5 and v0.7. The following 2 commits are the
fix to this issue:

ab43012 ("Fix the bug of Model Number and display the info of Serial Number")
a304435 ("Fix the bug of Model Number and display the info of Serial Number")

Probably the 1st was merged too early, instead of waiting v2..so it's
easier to backport both, in order.

Bug description:
  [SRU Justification][YAKKETY]

fwts segfaults when running a fwts method test because of a double
  unlock on a pthread mutex.

  [FIX]
  Upstream commit
https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/fwts-devel/2016-October/008679.html - don't
do double unlocking

  [TEST CASE]
run fwts method - on the firmware and we get a double unlock on method
invocation accounting and a segfault occurs. With the fix there is no segfault.

  [REGRESSION POTENTIAL]
Minimal impact; this affects method invocation accounting and just the fwts
method execution. The fix only changes the accounting and will not affect
other fwts test components.

Test 46 of 192: Test _OFF (Set resource off).
PASSED: Test 46, \_SB_.PCI0.PEG0.PEGP._OFF returned no values as expected.
Caught SIGNAL 11 (Segmentation fault), aborting.

Bug description:
When trying to configure a virtual NIC to DHCP with no IPv6 addresses using
Hyper-V's integration services, a configuration file similar to the following
is generated:
  HWADDR=XX:YY:ZZ
  DEVICE=eth0
  BOOTPROTO=dhcp

When running the hv_set_ifconfig script with this script as an argument
(executed by IS, most likely the KVP daemon; I ran it manually in order to
debug), it fails with the following stderr (stderr is muted, the script must be
edited to retrieve this information, so the line number is offset):
    File "hv_set_ifconfig", line 171, in
  output = ["auto "+" ".join(autolist)] + output
NameError: name 'autolist' is not defined

Editing the script so that autolist is defined in all flows resolves
the issue and the script successfully sets the interface to use DHCP
