Has the idea of placing the documentation on a wiki where it could be
updated by community members been discussed? Perhaps by users with a
Globus Online login?

I had a lot of troubles too.
Some of them I solved just by trying (a lot), other I ask for help for
some researchers (experts) who already installed.
So, I have some tricks and details that is necessary and is not
mentioned in doc.
Surely, I will help.
