And everybody could get even the NDA'ed glamo-et-al docs by signing a NDA - something Purism clearly and explicitly rejected when I asked. What the company been "labeled" is another topic, related to finances etc. In my book Purism does clever marketing but not much more. They obviously don't have own HW R And they market a mechanical switch plus 4cm wire they designed into that OEM product, like it were a scientific breakthrough. Almost funny to read how they elaborate about the "difficulties" they had with it. a clarification: the above and previous statements about their copyright and own R are based on what I recall their CTO(?) told me in a query on IRC when I asked for the schematics to help solve a problem. That's *exactly* where OPENNESS starts, or rather *ends* in this case - a blackbox hardware with a few *.h files as "documentation" how to use the blackbox is not open, even while FSF/RYF seems to think so. /j -- () ascii ribbon campaign /\ against html e-mail - against proprietary attachments http://www.georgedillon.com/web/html_email_is_evil.shtml http://www.nonhtmlmail.org/campaign.html http://www.georgedillon.com/web/html_email_is_evil_still.shtml http://www.gerstbach.at/2004/ascii/ (German) signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part. ___ Gta04-owner mailing list Gta04-owner@goldelico.com http://lists.goldelico.com/mailman/listinfo.cgi/gta04-owner

Purism doesn't even have the copyright and thus the permission to share their schematics! How's that "strong focus on hardware"? /j signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part. ___ Gta04-owner mailing list Gta04-owner@goldelico.com http://lists.goldelico.com/mailman/listinfo.cgi/gta04-owner

Well, if there had been a dedicated devroom it might have been very different because we would have known about a meeting opportunity long before. Another observation is that Bob's initiative seems to focus on mobile software while we are more on the interfaces and down to hardware. BR and thanks for sharing! OpenMoko was mentioned near the end of FOSDEM at a Birds of Feather phone development event that was organized ad-hoc on Saturday: https://bobsummerwill.com/2018/02/03/helping-purism-not-to-make-the-same-mistakes/ It was focused on Purism as the most recent contender to the title of a free software phone, but the conversation was really about other platforms, as you might guess from the post. There were people present involved with Purism, Jolla, Postmarket OS, Maemo, Mer, but also Fairphone and Plasma Mobile (sorry about those I forgot). Personally, I regret not meeting any people from Pyra, OpenMoko, ZeroPhone or Replicant, but I hope that at FOSDEM was an anomaly and that the community is not splitting in half :) Cheers, rhn ___ Gta04-owner mailing list Gta04-owner@goldelico.com http://lists.goldelico.com/mailman/listinfo.cgi/gta04-owner
