Hiya,
You are thinking along the same thoughts as me on the shaping to achieve the
rolled look without the horizontal pull, I can't wait to see finished
pictures, so few people do this time period!
As for the stuffing and possible ridge line, if you allow for the most
stuffing at the point
There was some talk last year about finding the perfect costume
calendar. I found a good selection at www.calendars.com, and just got an
email from them mentioning a free shipping and free gift wrap offer for
this month, and thought I'd pass it along. No affiliation, just a
satisfied customer.

I get digest so please excuse that I haven't got a quote to enter the
conversation with.
There are several references in Fashion in the Age of the Black Prince to linen
outer garments; some cloaks, a fighting jack, and something else (at work not
at at home). I think mostly from, wait for it,
Hi Joan,
Thanks, i hope so two.
I was thinking using following. Outer layer satin. 2 layers linnen wich i
draw in the lines on the 2nd linnen layer, so that i can make all the nice
stitching, and then when finished, put a lining inside.
Original stays has flossing, but i dont think i dare to
Yikes! That is very expensive none the less! I can get it online for $18/yard
and at the fashion district for between $14 and $16. I am so sorry it costs so
much more over there!
If you ever need help buying it more cheaply, give me a ring.!

My costume design class is researching the 1660's for Tartuffe. They had
a question about the strange little head piece seen on some ladies of the
period. It is a little disk attached to the forehead with a protruding stick
and ball attached to the end. What is that? Is it worn for a
A lining is a nice finish, and also you can use a nice strong linen
or hemp canvas not have to worry if it's pretty or not.
There are some originals that are stitched through the outer layer,
but for many brocades or silks the outer layer is applied afterward.
It can go either way.

Hi Cin,
AFAIK, I'm not booked for anything on those weekends,
so give me a shout off-list regarding time and place.
Oh, and if you're interested in the medieval period,
I'd recommend a (weekday) visit to Oxbow bookshop in
Oxford.

Ahh... $14 is indeed a good price, as long as the quality is good. I get
mine here:

but then, of course, I work for them.
It's generally $11/yd there, but the quality is unfortunately hit or miss;
