are folks interested in taking the gamble. There are 2 volume
... promised her that we won't spend too much time fabric shopping.
So, long-winded way of asking: can anyone recommend one or two SPECIFIC
stores ( or even a specific block) for:
- good quality lightweight linen
- silks (not dupioni, which is easy enough to find elsewhere) but
especially taffetas
Maybe take it to a cleaner who has one of those old mangle irons, like for
ironing sheets or tablecloths. They do a big area at a time.

my sources--most of which tell you straight out that their dye won't work on
silk. I've gotten some very lovely dark plums using black washfast acid dye
on silk.

I get my shirt/chemise linen from A&M Fabric at 214D W. 39th Street
(between 7th and 8th Ave). 212-642-4318 To my knowledge, they have no
website. Unless their prices have gone up since last I bought from
them, they'll sell you nice white linen at $6 a yard if you buy 20
yards, or a bit more

Why? Not enough saturation? There is some theatre paint, Roscopaint, I
think, which they said could be used to dye material, if thinned a lot.
Their black paint was lovely, a true velvet black, not grayed like "black"
house paint. I wonder if that would work (not that I'm looking for black,
