I had also heard that this portrait was thought to be Anne of Brittany. But
since Michael Sittow was Henry 7th's court painter I find it makes things
less likely that it is AB.

I went back to find your original post Melanie, and was curious if there wasn't
a mistake in the URL. This image is posted twice,

This is a great company, and contrary to the implication, you need not be a

Sorry for the cross posts all. I'v just made a middle class full length full
circle cape. Of course over the shoulder the cape length is shorter. Do most
people hem the rest of the cape to match that length or do they just do an even
hem all 'round and allow it to be longer in front and back?
You know, now that you mention it, I think most of the colored examples are
grisaille. But I'll go through my files this weekend and nail down the image
floating in my mind of color. I'll also look for the fluttery ones.

I try to make capes the same distance from the floor all the way
around. Time consuming, I know, because you have to measure it all
around with the person wearing it. And the problem is that when
wearing it later, it shifts around.

All the extant ones I've seen have been semi-circular, but some of the
ecclesiastical ones are tailored at the shoulder.

Wow, that is one of the muddiest copies I've ever seen of this lovely image.
It's like someone deliberately made it into a watercolor image or something, so
much of the detail is blurred.
There is a nice color version in crisp detail available in _Dress in Ireland_
by Mairead Dunlevy. I
Cut the thing as an oval with the shorter axis being the front and back; use
your shoulder width to determine how much extra length is required for the
long axis. Hem evenly all around -- you'll need to gather or tuck,
