The project's choice of name is very... provocative. It reminds me to
say PSTS instead of POTS when referring to analogue telephones in
Israel.

1. As per Dotan's advice, I just filled in a request for 50 Ubuntu disks, to
be handed out to students. It would take time, but perhaps we will obtain
this in time for the April meeting.
2. People who like Kubuntu better, should perhaps do the same...
I have about 30 official Ubuntu 8.04 LTS CDs I got via ShipIt a few months
back. We could hand them out, since, at least for now, that is the version
installed at the lab.
I guess whoever installs it at home, will find the way to update it to 9.04
when the time is right...
I'll bring my CD stack

Dotan,
The policy I would like to promote is that of diversity. OOo is great, but
people should be able to choose between (at least) LaTeX, OOo, LyX, AbiWord,
and KOffice. KOffice is more slick, but less compatible. I think that
students should be exposed to a variety of tools. If I had to force
Thanks Dotan for agreeing to help with SSDL wiki.
Shahar: Can you please open a Wiki account for Dotan?
I did not mention this before, but I think we could easily open an account
and grant SSDL access to interested HLC members.

Thanks guys.

I would like to make a paid order of disks. No point in doing that before
9.04 is out.

Does anyone know whether you can make live CDs on a rewriteable CDs (DVDs),
so that they can be used as your portable computer? This sounds cheaper than
DOK.

Tal, I missed that note of yours. As you can all tell, I am not a big expert
on distributions and the myriad of products. (I used to have a good
understanding of the basic concepts, old kernel structure and the such, but
not much more.)
Anyway, I checked a bit about andLinux and about coLinux.

Agreed about waiting for 9.04. Although Shipit will charge for
multiple disks, if you write to Canonical and express that the disks
are for distribution in Linux
