Are 24 month contracts for mobile voice packages now the norm? This is new
to me but I can't say my memory's that great nowadays or that such things
keep my interest. If they are then fine - but it used to be

You can pick up a decent second-hand handset and get a cheap PAYG SIM for
a lot less than you'll pay on contract...

By voice packages do you mean telephones or sim-only? The latter are
widely available on a rolling monthly basis (and some good deals too:

You don't have to tell them why, but my suggestion is to tell them you
are going to Giffgaff.
I rang Vodafone to get a PAC. They put me through to the retention
