Hi,
I'm looking for a sim to put in an Android device.
It doesn't have to specifically be a mobile broadband sim, but I don't
care about making calls or sending txts I just want data access.
I'm not looking to sign up to a years long contract, I'd prefer pay as you
go, but a monthly fee
I'm guessing I won't use more than 500MB a month, but certainly no more
than 1GB. So some flexibility would be good, but I could live with a fix
500MB a month for a good deal.
I've heard good things from friends about GiffGaff for calls and txt but I
don't know what their data policies are
If you are mostly interested in data access I highly recommend 3, one extra
thing to think about if you care about data access is the speed of the
service and I have found o2 to be very slow. From what I understand 3 are
one of the fastest providers out there at the moment (by quite a large
I think that GiffGaff is a good way to go. If you topup £10 on a new SIM
provided by a current GiffGaff user, you'll get £5 free credit. You can
then buy a goodybag to give you internet access from that credit. With
500MB of data, you could get your first 3 months access for just £10.
That's a

+1 for 3, GiffGaff seems OK but the O2 coverage around my house is quite
frankly, crap, hence I've left O2 completely. Also O2 have not been the
most reliable of networks in the last couple of years, 2 major outages and
word is that when there are network level faults GiffGaff are always the
poor

Is giffgaff a reseller?
If so what network does it piggy back on?

For me, giffgaff have been great so far. I've even switched the mobile
to them as well. The only really dumb thing is that you have to have one
giffgaff account per device. OTOH, that means I can give myself SIM
cards and get the bonus credit :)
£5 to try it for a month to see what the
GiffGaff piggybacks off of O2, so indeed if O2 has an issue Giffgaff may
suffer too. Interestingly they are both owned by Telefónica so they are
also in competition with each other but for the same parent. The
difference with Gigggaff is that most of the support is done by other
members who gain

IMHO, for the price of £10 / month without binding contract, it's
You may want to look at this short article which summarises whats out
there. Intriguingly there are free options which are bound to

I've actually been looking for a new provider recently. I want
a small number of calls (I used 14 minutes last 'month') and
unlimited data (or at least, a few GB) with tethering.

I have not had problems tethering on my android phone with 3.

I was reading their website today, and the only option that allowed
it seemed to be limited to 2GB data (their One Plan).
I've now just seen that that their 1 month One Plan has

There's a 3G option (only on the 32GB models afaik) - you may also be
able to plug in an external 3G/HSDPA dongle I have done this in the past
