I agree with Fil.
I have used Epi-Info or at least run it. It was so long ago that I don't
remember much about it... except that Nothing I've used gives me the control
over my data that FileMan provides. I ran my medical practice with many new
files and fields grafted onto the IHS PRCR... (or
Nancy,
You probably do not want to use e-mail there. You will only get frustrated.
You are probably better off learning other things like Clinical Reminder 2.

If you have installed Vista you can just leave it alone and reinstall
all the
files needed using the FileMan installation routine DINIT (Do ^DINIT).
You will
have to answer some questions but the resualt is a running and complete
FileMan.
It uses the routines in your vista distribution. It is not
Sun and IBM haven't been playing well together. I believe IBM is
currently working on an open-source version of the Java Runtime. The
problem is - the Java spec itself runs thru the Java Committee and that
Committee is mostly chaired by Sun. So... it'll be hard to be purely
open but at least
Wolfgang,
I will also go back to your earlier posting on DINIT
I mentioned you in the extraction camp only because you started with a
full installation (yes, selective use is not the same as isolating your
learning space from other available routines using an extraction) .

participants in that initiative...

A complete VA FileMan (without the other Kernel components such as
Package file, Options supported by Menuman, etc.) is in the three
namespaces of DI*, DD* and DM*. From Viva or semi-Viva, just copy
those routines to another folder and use just that folder. You'll
need one more routine for GT.M
Based on Dr. Giere's description, GT.M has the ability to share selected
routines between environments and have each environment have it's own
set of globals which is the way to go. Actually, that's just perfect
for a vendor to provide ASP services - One set of Vista routines and
each client gets
Cameron, would you include HL7 files as part of Infrastructure/Kernel?
I'm starting to prepare cut my DIAMOND and the last time I did it, I
didn't include HL7 files. I was thinking of keeping them this time.

Infrastructure == Kernel, Toolkit, MailMan, HL7, VA ListManager (VALM),
RPC Broker, of course VA FileMan, and now VistALink. And you'll want
some of the Device file entries as well that don't come with the
Class I releases.

Fil is correct. The GT.M ability to configure development environments
is exceptionally flexible. Read and digest the following when you have
a few minutes to absorb the examples.
A GT.M process searches for its routines using the $ZROutines intrinsic
special variable, not unlike the Java
Great explanation!!

Thank you mucho.

I got my feet wetter there a little yesterday, and so far I like what I am
seeing. It is a pleasure and a privilege to be able to interact with more of
the VA folks who are knowledgable about VistA. It certainly expands our
resources.
