Imagine Windows users could
upgrade to OS X (provided there is driver support).
If it does work well for them, MS could
have a serious threat on their hands in the long term. Short term effects will
be probably next to nothing considering nothing really kicks off strong in its
infancy

Considering how much x86 hardware is out there, maybe the purpose of the
exercise is to drive hardware costs down?
But you're right. It could spell doom for them instead.
Adios,

They only say that they're moving to Intel manufactured chips, not
necessarily x86.
I can't see Apple moving to x86. Nobody will buy any new macs until the
hardware switches. Why buy into a dead achetecture?

I'll say this as an add-on.. one of the most useful thing I've bought is

There has been some speculation and rumor about this for a few weeks now,
all started by a blurb in the Wall Street Journal. If Apple really does
completely ditch IBM and go to Intel, then that obviously is a really,
really big deal. Current speculation suggests that Apple will use SOME Intel

Well, IBM just inked contracts with both Microsoft for XBOX360 and Nintendo
for Revolution.. so uh, I think those will keep it busy.. they probably do
same/more volume then Apple ;)

Yeah lots of features that I was looking for with the old version. Uses
less CPU now also. Just a lot better overall. I'm impressed with it.

The great success of Apple, IMHO, (leaving iPod out of it) has been

Not necessarily. Remember your history
OS X is based on Nextstep OS from Next (the company Jobs ran for awhile)
That OS ran on x86 chips, so the OS isn't completely tied to the PPC core.
But that doesn't mean a computer that can run windows can also run OS X as
the Next boxes couldn't.
Thanks!
