[H] Apple display issues
Hello, Sometime ago Tom's reported an Apple forum thread discussing issues with the new iMac displays. The thread was locked. Apple hadn't commented on it officially. Some people seemed to have issues and other didn't. Some seemed to think it was something further up the line from Apple as other non-apple branded displays had similar issues. I cannot find out if this issue has gone away and I would very much like to give a friend of mine the O.K. to buy his iMac. Anyone got the skinny on this? -- Regards, joeuser - Still looking for the 'any' key...

According to Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IEEE_802.11n Status Work on the 802.11n standard dates back to 2004. The draft is expected to be finalized in November 2008 with publication in July 2009, but major manufacturers are now releasing 'pre-N', 'draft n' or 'MIMO-based' products based on early specs. These vendors anticipate the final version will not be significantly different from the draft, and in a bid to get the early mover advantage, are pushing ahead with the technology. A firmware update should be able to make current Draft-N hardware compatible with the final version. So the answer is no but I sure do love 144Mbps that I'm getting with my configuration hope that I get a little faster as firmware software will improve for both the Router WNIC . Yes, I'll have to keep checking for firmware updates for the WNIC the router but that's no big deal, IMHO It sure beats the 11 Mbps that the 802.11G card that my B-I-L gets in his used Gateway 450 ROG w/ a Pentium M 1400 MHz 512meg laptop that he bought from his coworker that wanted a new laptop. He could add more ram. The good news is that he bought it for his grand daughter to pound on for only $300 from a coworker. And that's why I said Ugh N. -- Regards, joeuser - Still looking for the 'any' key...
Re: [H] Switching NICS
Thanks Joe, The conversion is complete! And does data now fly! Never seen this PC move data this fast. :) If my xdsl isp wishes to complain about my change of MAC addy, I'll deal with this in the future! Turns out, on the Asus A7N8X-E-deluxe the GLan chip (Marvell 88E8001-LKJ) is not enabled in bios. It has a jumper on the m/b to turn it on. Yes, did have to disable the nVidia/RealTek chipset in bios. Even better, W2K does NOT have a default driver for the Marvell chip; it did stop on boot up and let point W2K to the latest Marvell driver. Worked like a champ. This PC is FAST now! New nics are in-transit. :) Best, Duncan At 12:39 01/31/2008 -0600, you wrote: Hello DHSinclair, Thursday, January 31, 2008, 12:14:14 PM, you wrote: 6. Reboot PC to W2K - hope OS picks up new nic(!) Move net cable to new nic; try and connect to other LAN clients. 10. If OK; repeat steps at another client. If not OK; Hmm Everything was great till 6. (here, I am going to assume that W2K has a default driver for the new nic) Don't assume this. Otherwise sounds ok to me. -- Regards, joeuser - Still looking for the 'any' key...
[H] Gcal feed question
For those of you like me who love Google Calendar, I have a question. I have several calendars (both public and private) on mine and was wondering if there was one feed that had them all. The reason is to sync to my iPhone as I don't use Outlook or iCal and thus I am finding it frustrating. There is an app called SyncML2iPhone that will sync a single Google Calendar or iCal feed and I want to use that to get all of my calendars synced. - Brian Weeden Technical Consultant Secure World Foundation
[H] OT Brain Teaser
There are seven girls on the bus. Each girl has 7 backpacks. In each backpack there are seven big cats, for every big cat there are seven little cats. How many legs are in the bus? I didn't get it right... Mark Mark Dodge
Re: [H] OT Brain Teaser
Ok, I'll bite. 7 times 4 is 28 times 2 legs per girl is 56. Add 2 more for the drive and I get 58. What did I miss? Girls legs = 7*2=14 Big Cat = 7 (girls) * 7 (backpacks) * 7 (cats per backpack) = 343 Little cats = 343 (big cats) * 7 (little cats per big cat) = 2401 Cat Legs = (343 + 2401) * 4 = 10976 Total legs = 10976 + 14 = 10990 There is no mention of a bus driver being on the bus! -Original Message- From: James Maki 10990 -Original Message- From: Mark There are seven girls on the bus. Re: [H] OT Brain Teaser
Yep. Here'd a counter question (I refigured and missed a step, I think 10992 is right). But that could also be wrong... if this schoolbus has benches, they will have 'legs' and statistically, 2 in every 300 cats has a deformity, so who knows. The answer is unclear. :) Sent via BlackBerry -Original Message- From: Brian Weeden [EMAIL PROTECTED] Date: Fri, 1 Feb 2008 21:16:16 To:hardware@hardwaregroup.com Subject: Re: [H] OT Brain Teaser Lol. Re: [H] OT Brain Teaser
Yeah, I think 10990 is the expected answer, but you could take it a step further... The information, as presented, is that the girls are ON the bus...which could be interpreted as sitting on top of the roof or something. That'd mean, potentially, zero are IN (the confines of) the bus, as the question asks. Alternatively, the information presented doesn't indicate that the girls are WEARING the backpacks, suggesting the possibility that the backpacks are at home, or at school, or anywhere else. That could mean the answer is 14... -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:hardware- [EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Friday, February 01, 2008 9:18 PM To: hardware@hardwaregroup.com Subject: [***SPAM*** Score/Req: 6.4/5.3] Re: [H] OT Brain Teaser Yep.
