28 years ago we had a 6th Grade textbook from Oxford
University Press in which we found many instances of
antisemitic passages.
The company defended some of the passages as
explaining what Christians thought of the Jews, but
said they would give some thought to revisions for
future editions of the

Kosman, Miriam. Family for a While. CIS Publishers (c1993)
Schur, Maxine. The Circlemaker. Dial Books (c1994) ( A student

Thanks to Sherry Wasserman for posting on Hasafran the JTA article
about California's rejection of a sixth grade history textbook
program. Biased textbooks, as well as biased trade books, are a
serious problem. However, does anyone know the title of the textbook
published by Oxford University
A gentleman I know has a library of about 156 books, mostly rabbinic
works of the late nineteenth century and the early twentieth century.
There are some Yiddish works and some works of general interest. The
donor prefers to send them to an orhodox institution but, I think,
won't insist on that

Last year all 6th and 7th graders at our school read Jewish books and wrote
reviews. They enjoyed them so much that many of them went on to read each
other's books.
