The discussion of JRB (which we get) reminds me of a discussion
that's going on in our Conservative congregation. We used to get
Commentary and it was cut off before my time as too conservative (in
the political, not the Jewish, sense). Tikkun never made the cut but
was proposed to offset
I may have asked this before, but we need to select a few new books
that represent Israeli culture - either books by Israeli authors or
about some form of the arts and humanities. One would be for a book
club. Any ideas?

In our synagogue library we use the Weine system and mark fiction as F and
young adult fiction as YA F. The Sydney Taylor collection this year
is full of
graphic novels, and others are coming through. Do you guys have special
designations for them?
Thanks!

For those of you in synagogue and center libraries, what do you do

Does anyone know of a biography of Hannah Senesh for young children? We have
Hannah Szenes - a song of light. It's fine but a bit mature.
Also, is there such a thing as a Sefer Ha-Agada edited by A.B. Yehoshua? I
can't find one but it's hard to search Hebrew spellings.
Thank you!

We need to memorialize someone who had limited vision, gave us many large print
books and audiobooks, was passionate about cooking, and was religious.
Does anyone know of good kosher cookbooks in large print and/or audio?
And does anyone know whether the Conservative prayerbooks are available in
this year's
awards, or that are just plain good?
Thanks!

A fourth grader last week asked me for a joke book, and I was
surprised to realize we didn't have any. I looked on Jewish Values

joke books of Jewish interest for kids? Would anyone like to write one? :-)

We're trying to find more new books for elementary and middle school

Which brings up another - what NON-HOLOCAUST books for teens are
there with male protagonists, other than So Punk Rock?
And if anyone has any general thoughts about great new books you've
acquired lately, I'd love to hear them.

We're looking for a newish mystery for our book club. We've done
Daniel Silva and Batya Gur to death. Haven't seen other new ones
recently. If they're by a Jewish author and have Jewish characters,
they qualify.

Please let me know too if you know anything. I am still looking for
books about Jews this century living in Middle Eastern countries,
particularly those that teens can read.

It may have been a response to my inquiry for books about Jews living
in Arab countries in this century. (I asked for young adult books,
but I refer to seventh and eighth graders.) Haven't gotten much

I've seen them come and go and I know there are many good ones on the
AJL site - but I've been asked whether there's a basic bibliography
of books that all synagogue libraries should have (not fiction or
children's necessarily).
We're a conservative synagogue.
Thanks, everyone!

Can someone recommend a recent collection of poems in

I'm looking for a short reading (doesn't have to be a poem) for an
interfaith marriage. The bride and groom want something with a
Jewish flavor or origin. I'm afraid our wedding book collection
isn't what it should be. Ideas on either? Thanks!
