Congratulations Elliot! And thanks to the committee for a very good choice.

Elliot, you have devoted so much time, effort and perseverance to sustain and
grow AJL – I am very grateful to you for all that. It was a pleasure to work
with you at a couple of ALA conferences and to witness how respected and loved
you were by all the librarians with whom you worked.

Enjoy the pleasures of retirement and stay connected with your colleagues and
with AJL

[ha-Safran] AJL-NYMA Stipend Application for AJL Conference- Deadline Extended

2019-04-18 Thread Rina Krautwirth via Hasafran

[cid:image003.jpg@01D4EA23.F3736D10]

Association of Jewish Libraries-New York Metropolitan Area Chapter
AJL-NYMA
April 18th, 2019

Dear AJL-NYMA members,

This year's AJL Conferene will take place from Monday June 17th to Wednesday
June 19th in Los Angeles, CA and all are encouraged to partake in what
promises to be a thought provoking conference.

AJL-NYMA will be offering limited stipends to help NYMA members defray the cost
of attending. Only those who are paid-up members of both AJL national and NYMA
are eligible. A sub-committee of the NYMA Executive Board will select the
convention subsidy winners.

If you would like to be considered, please fill out the questionnaire on page
two below. It must be emailed
to rina.krautwi...@yu.edu,
bk...@flatbush.org or
inco...@jtsa.edu) by the extended deadline of April
30th, 2019. Stipend recipients will be expected to be involved in AJL-NYMA
programming, planning and related activities.

Anyone who receives the stipend and does not attend the convention for any
reason is responsible for notifying NYMA immediately and repaying the amount in
full. Our first priority is to extend funding to those who have no other
sources of financial assistance.

Please note that national AJL also offers stipends the conference. National AJL
is taking into consideration chapter stipends when it awards its stipends. NYMA
recipients are expected to inform national AJL of their NYMA awards, and
national AJL will reduce their awards accordingly.

We hope that this stipend will assist some of our members to attend the AJL
Annual Convention. This annual event provides excellent learning and networking
opportunities which are beneficial to all.

Sincerely yours,

Rina Krautwirth

[ha-Safran] Offer of Jewish art collection for a university library

2019-04-18 Thread Michelle Chesner via Hasafran
I have been asked to post the following, from a donor interested in giving
his collection to a university library:

I have a collection of books on Jewish art and artists that I am interested
in donating to a university library. The collection contains over 12,000
books, although some are thin gallery catalogues. Attached is a list of
the collection in three parts: JAI is a list of the general books about
Jewish art and artists; JAII is a list of the monographs on individual
artists with names from A to K; and JAIII is a list of the monographs on
individual artists with names from L to Z. About 100 books will be added
to the lists, mostly gallery catalogues, but otherwise the lists are
substantially complete (and will be fully complete in a month or so). The
artists include painters, sculptors, photographers, architects, and
designers.

Most of the books are in excellent, if not new, condition, and some are
already rare in that condition. I would want them in a special collection
with limited circulation to preserve their value. All the books are in
archival book jackets or archival Mylar sleeves, so any library markings
need not mar the books themselves.

[ha-Safran] EVA/Minerva Brazil International Conference on Advanced Technologies for Culture 14-15 May 2019, São Paulo, Brazil

2019-04-18 Thread Dov Winer via Hasafran
*EVA/Minerva Brazil*

*International Conference on Advanced Technologies for Culture*

*14-15 May 2019, São Paulo, Brazil*

This conference is part of the EVA Conference International
network and organized as a joint
initiative with the EVA/Minerva Jerusalem Conference
.
The partners producing the conference are UNESP (University of the State of
São Paulo); PUC-SP (Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo);
and the Jewish Museum of São Paulo.

Conference Web Site: https://www.evaminerva.net.br

Registration: http://tinyurl.com/evaminerva-br

Program: https://tinyurl.com/program-BR

Brochure: https://tinyurl.com/folder-BR Poster:
https://tinyurl.com/poster-BR

*Purpose*

Cultural Heritage is a key element to promote socio-economic development,
but its full potential –as an engine for innovation and growth,
remains unfulfilled. To bridge this gap there is need to address the
complex links between traditional cultural assets and policies
(cultural heritage, dynamic cultural institutions and services) and the
opportunities provided by new demands and societal needs. This
implies involving actors that work in the cultural heritage field with
those developing and implementing advanced technologies attuned
to the new civilization. Such civilization has evolved due to the impact on
society of ICT (Information and Communication Technologies)
in its various guises - the New Media, the Internet, the Web, mobile
services and the IoT (Internet of Things).

The conference will be a meeting of the relevant professional communities
from Brazil and from abroad enabling exchange of experiences,
mutual learning and to build joint projects. This initiative is in synergy
with the increased cooperation between the European Union and
Brazil. The co-financing arrangements for RTD were extended in May 2018 to
the whole country while previously they were available
only in eight states.
