Our waste is stored outside the building in a PIG unit that can hold two 55 gal
drums leakage if necesary. We have a waste company pick up every 3 weeks. You
cannot store on site more than 90 days flammable hazardous waste.

We have two benches assigned to check and fill out inventory sheets once per
week. One inventory deals with special stains and IHC along with other items
that are in the same room. The other deals with accessioning, cutting and
processing.

Does anyone have any experience with storing formalin fixed breast tissue in
70% before processing? I am trying to comply with the new guidelines set forth
by CAP and ASCO with regard to Her2 and ER/PR and since my lab does not operate
on the weekend we have been well above the 48 hour
We use the Lecia ST5020 for our paps and it performs just fine. We looked into
a Symphony but reagent cost was too high for us compared to what we pay now.
For those of you who currently use or have used any of these instruments:

How does everyone handle disposing of blocks that are more than 10 years old?
Are they incinerated, hauled away by a waste management company or just thrown
in the trash.
In Maryland I was told they can't be thrown in the regular trash by a state
waste official.

Formula 83 works as close to Xylene as I have found.

Our IHC waste is hauled away like our Alcohol/Xylene sub. The town we are in
would not allow the IHC waste down the sink, but they do allow us to throw
the NexES sp. Stainer waste down the sink. Maryland is the state.

the slides for us. There is a company in WI that makes a Slydeater that you
can rent for one month to pulverize your slides. I am looking into that

I have purchased a calibrated digital thermometer. I take the temps using
the calibrated thermometer and the regular thermometer. Compare the
difference and list it at the top of my Quality Control sheets for the
instruments. When the temps are taken everyday with the regular thermometer

the snowcoat slides changed to a slick surface instead of a rough surface.
We have switched to a pale gray slide that still has the rough surface and
we have not had any printing wipe off.
