I agree with William tape from anyone else but Sakura is not worth the time and
effort. We were just CAP inspected and they said nothing about tape. I have had
issues with tape and usually just cut around the sample on the tape and recover
on a slide, works beautifully. As far as the oven time
histo tech salaries are all over the place, hospital still do not recognize our
importance and it shows with the salary range. also with re-embursements being
cut it just runs down hill.

I agree if the tissue is cut properly you should not need an extended program
but when you have residents and PA's they tend to rush and their sections are
thicker. We do not have an extended program still within the CAP limits and it
works quite nicely.

we do not use freeze spray in the lab at all. this issue has really gotten me
bummed out since it is so sporadic. I am going to try to see if it is
associated to one day in particular. it is one PA but multiple techs have
identified the issue.

OMG we are experiencing the same issue. At first it was just GI and now we are
seeing it on prostate. One pathologist said it looks like the tissue has been
cooked. The only issue is we can have two biopsies right next to one another in
the basket one looks good and one looks bad. My director
they are being held in and
that temperature. If you are looking for a lean approach this is not it. If
they are already in a space I would ask what the space is going to be used for
and perhaps that use could be swiched.

For the most part we release nothing to patients, all our releases are
approved by our Risk Management Department.. Hardware for litigation purposes
must be released to an approved storage lab. Anything that must be buried must
go through a funeral home.

I have seen these cassettes and while they are nice they are rather expensive
and with re-embursemnt down everyone is looking at their budget. Also due to
the design and the use of bar codes they do not always fit in the engravers. I
still like the idea but with the amount of prostates we do
We have a weekly schedule prepared monthly
Tech 1 rapids, special stains, IHC microtomy
Tech 2 bone marrow, cell blocks and assist tech 1, this tech can be pulled for
routines if possible
Tech 3 biopsies, HE stainer, and case distribution
Tech 4 our off site campus work, this tech also does
Home Depot or Lowes sells plastic scrappers in the paint area. I cannot see
why we would pay top dollar for this item. I also purchase brushed to clean
paraffin off microtomes at the craft store. 50 cents each is much better than
5 dollars.

We use Dragon with CoPath Plus and works great, you can make macros and I know
my PA have created some quick texts as well. We actually stared with Kurzweil
in the 80's and expanded to Dragon speak. the only time we do not use Dragon
is with Synoptic, although it works, it is labor intensive.
We use Ventana tracking system that is interfaced with our LIS and can track
all slides.

like it very much, was not sure if I was going to like going back to labels but

What we do here is run a mix of expected negative and positive cases this way
we are sure we are not getting exogenous staining. Depending on the antibody
we try to run at least a mix of 25 cases. In some cases the antibody proves
difficult to get a large amount of positive cases and we make
HP is difficult, we actually use a patien control from a positive case and cut
approx 20 slides from each block. You can probably purchase them but they are
costly.

We had the same problems, tried oven did not work, the best plan is holding out
for at least 5 days prior to filing.

We collect one unstained for postate biopsies, 5 unstained for lungs (we id
each slide with a level number and do 5 unstained), if the biopsy is small the
histotech will take come unstained slides and hold them for about a week, we
actually place a dot on the block so the techs know
they have completed microtomy. The
tech that is in the front will cut biopsies, especially the ones for H-Pylori
and than go to the front for the remainder of the shift.
I know it sounds confusing but it actually works.

We actually just stared keeping a log for special stains, always for IHC. Our
rule of thumb is that an IHC control slide cannot be oler than 6 months,
although we go through most of them much faster. For the basic IHC, tonsil,
fallopian tube etc we do not log the case information for IHC
All you would need to do is id the tissue and dx on your paperwork. it should
not be any different than running each blocks alone.

We have the same issue. It is bad when they try to use the same QA form for out
of range
proficiency testing. a +3 or +4 is IHC is not the same as 70 or 200 glucose
result. The
pathologists are haven real issues with it as well.

We always validated our processor but not formally. CAP wants a more formal
approach with procedures.

It is my understanding that you can only bill for one 88342 on a specimen -
technical or professional, even if you perform the same stain on multiple
blocks of that specimen. For A1, A2, A3 etc you can only charge once. For A1,
B1, C1, etc you may charge a 88342 per specimen.
