I propose something completely different. We should open up a VIP filtered
content server for server owners who contribute to it. Like a 5 dollar
monthly fee. Server would be in Dallas where there are cheaper servers and
BW.

I would assume so. It would simply use the filtered option like on the stats
page and I believe you simply add your steam login credentials to your
update command line to gain access. Im not quite sure the exact amount of
bandwidth that would be used or if Valve would approve of something like
I propose something else:
Do the world a favour and run a Steam Content Server:

Skip all the ridiculously manual suggestions that have been talked about
so far.

I believe Valve would Approve. Like the KB Article Page says, you need those
req's to be a content host. If you look at the stats page, nearly all the
non-valve Content providers are filtered and only serve a few people, not
the entire valve network. So it's possible. The Server though would be
I believe this would surplus the requirements:

But wait... how about Valve fixes the updatetool to not use overloaded
servers? :D
There's plenty of unused content servers when an update happens, piles of
them!

Anyone else noticing a big difference on the hitbox lag, compared to a few
months ago? TF2 uses code for server to lag compensate, but it's always
very off now.

Running it out of your house isn't going to build much of a
