Re: [hlds] tf2 higher cpu usage

2009-12-19 Thread Matt Stanton
If you are not running HiResTimer or srcdsfpsboost, then you are not
seeing the true amount of CPU usage in task manager (assuming a windows
server). I kinda doubt that valve included any code to trip the windows
high resolution timer, but if they had, you would instantly see a huge
jump in cpu usage, since task manager would then be able to report the
actual cpu usage of srcds. I do not believe that a HighResTimer or
fpsbooster service is required in Windows Server 2008+, Windows Vista,
or 7, but Windows Server 2003 and below need to have one running to get
true cpu stats involving srcds.

We haven't noticed a CPU usage jump from srcds since the update that
made bandwidth usage more efficient. The likely culprit would be that
valve changed something that caused a plugin to get borked and use more
CPU (this is only a wild theory, and may not even be technically
feasible, but it's the only thing I can come up with).

Re: [hlds] Servers lost connection to steam but it hasnt

2009-12-19 Thread Arg!
Just noticed this happening to me to. What would be really nice is a command
to force the connection to steam to retry.
I imagine it would need some kind of cooldown which im sure some will say
mitigates the need for it in the first place but if the command displayed
some output about the connect sequence then we might be able to determine if
there is some other problem on the client (eg srcds server steam client)
side preventing connectivity.
